I just heard James Yeager talk with the owner of AAC and they have me sold. Yes I know James Yeager is a bit of a douchebag and some lick his boots but that's not the point of this.

I am a vacuum cleaner. Fill me with the knowledge of .300 BLK AAC 2015 YOLO

thisis the video of which I speaketh

old video

blackout is pretty cool, mmmkay?

kind of a jack of all trades thing though, i wouldn't say it's spectacular at anything other than being a specifically suppressable rifle caliber.

ETA: and it's the ideal AR SBR caliber, too, I guess.

There are many calibers out there that can do the same thing, but better, unless....

You go short barrel. 6.8 & .458 do well out of short barrels too, but they dont ...
It suppresses well. So does the 9mm and 45acp, but these dont have the parts-commonality or mag options rifle based platforms do.
Its flexible. You can shoot fast 110 gr bullets for some umph, or go 220 gr pounders. Easy to reload for.

The beauty is ...
The 300 does all of this! It does nothing exceptionally well, but it does a lot of things really really good, and it does it all with just a barrel swap!!!!

Now, I will add this-
If you have no plans to going short-barreled or suppressed, find yourself another caliber. There are others out there.

What he said!

I have one that I built the lower and bought the AAC 9" MPW upper assembly and a Primary Arms red dot, which I will eventually upgrade to an Aimpoint.

It shoots very well, though I have only been to the range with it once to sight it in and give it a test run. The recoil is negligible, I thought it felt like less recoil than an AK in 7.62 x 39, although ballistically, they are similar in the 150-ish grain loads. I shot both 149 gr FMJ supers and 208 gr subsonic A-Max loads and it shot great. I sighted at 50 yards because I figured as an ECD SBR, I'd get in real legal issues if I had to engage a threat at over that range, anyway. I have an AAC 7.62-SDN-6 in ATF jail, which I should hopefully have in hand in a month or two. After that I will doubtless shoot it more. It's the handiest AR I've ever shot, and I like the idea of having the versatility of the sub / super loads with the change of a magazine. (Bonus: I will have a suppressor that I can attach to my AR-10 as well, and can also reload both calibers using the same bullets.)

300 blk is the most failed cartridge that was ever brought into existence. It is incapable of performance any better then a .22 short. Any claims to its effectiveness are bald face lies. Any body who knows anything knows it sucks. Thousands of supposed users, who were paid by AAC claim that it is a 1000yd cartridge. The only reason any one has even heard of it is because AAC bribed an and or forced/threatened gun magazines, gun shops, gun manufacturers, bullet manufacturers, and gun writers to talk about it. There is some moron on Here that even claims he uses subsonics to hunt with it. But if you know anything about ballistics you know that anything under 1000foot lbs of energy won't even penetrate the hide of a squirrel. In the end only fools, suckers, and liars talk about this worthless cartridge.
Link Posted: 11/8/2014 8:15:59 AM EDT
I shoot it suppressed out of a 16 inch barreled Remington 700 SPS. In 220gr form, it does this well, with much better 'long range' ballistics than .45, .40 or 9mm. This being said, all subsonic ammo drops like a thrown football. Range estimation and compensation is key.

For my purposes, it's not going to boot 5.56*45 from my ARs. I have a SBR 9mm AR if I want to have some short range fun.

Exactly and Subsonic AK ammo is out there everywhere and so much cheaper then 300 blk subsonic ammo. this man has it right
Link Posted: 11/8/2014 8:24:40 AM EDT
It's good for what it's good for.

1) Subsonic 220g+ rounds from a rifle or shot barrel
2) much better ballistics from a pistol / short barrel then .223, due to using faster magnum pistol powders
3) easy to build from standard ar parts - just need a barrel. Mags, bolt, other parts are same as .223
4) reloading - cheap .223 brass can be converted with your labor, uses less powder then .223, if only pulled .308 bullets came back

What's its not good for.

1) Hunting - there are much better ways to propel .30 cal bullets (some people hunt with .22lr, so I may be proven wrong)
2) SHTF - .300 AAC ammo? anyone???
3) >150 yards, .223 is a much flatter trajectory, .308 does it much better if 30 cal is a must

All said and done, they are fun to build and shoot with a barrel and some cheap upper components.

it is spectacular at nothing whatsoever. it is to expensive to build, it is to expensive to load for. nobody makes ammo for it at all.

I was looking into and seriously considering getting one, but then I asked here and researched it a bit and decided like many said here, it is ok at most everything, you can find a rifle that does everything it does better so I ended up passing at the last minute. I dunno, still may pick one up anymore down the road when money is not so tight.

Here is my unprofessional take on it. As we stand right now, good subsonic ammo is pretty expensive (relatively speaking), so unless I am trying to show my friends or family something cool, I don't shoot it at the range or for training.
However, if you reload, you can shoot a lot of it.

I have the short barrel AAC upper with a suppressor on it as my go to home defense weapon loaded with subsonic lehigh defense ammo (this stuff is supposed to expand crazy good for subsonic ammo) because I want to save my ears should I have to shoot indoors. I also have some of the Barnes kryptonite tipped supersonic ammo for shooting through engine blocks at terrorists who might be seeking cover behind a car, or for hunting.

As others have said, it does a lot of things good, but the thing it does "great" is suppress out of a very short barrel.

I look forward to the day that ammo is less expensive, which I think is coming b/c it looks like more companies are putting out ammo for it.

In a single shot you might as well shoot 30-30 . In an AR platform shoot .7.62x39 . It is a short range .30 caliber round . the world is full of them .

Shooting suppressed subs is fun. It is a nice short package.

My 8" 300 still isn't my favorite build though.

In for the gangbang.

OP, great suppressed rifle cartridge. Supersonic ballistics similar to 7.62x39 (AK47), with suppressed subsonic loads scary quiet and better energy wise than suppressed 9mm. All with just a barrel swap.

If you need a low signature rifle to fire blindly from a ditch the 300 blackout maybe for you.

Seriously, great cartridge. check out the military arms channel on youtube for some more info.

A 22 WMR has 324 ft lbs of energy and I'm pretty sure it has taken its fair share of deer.

And, not a .300 BLK fan.

It causes male pattern baldness also. Someone here was turned into a newt because of it.

So says you. The 300blk can't penetrate a water jug. If people would stop talking about it it will go away.

I built mine for deer hunting under 200 yards. 125gr SST at 2200fps.

Was going to go with a 6.8 but the parts expense and aviablity turned me to the 300.

If I want an AR for longer distance or bigger game, I'll just get an AR-10

Then light recoil also makes for a good youth cartridge.

I was thinking all this was correct, then I remembered I have a photo showing the exit wound devastation to a hog that I shot with a 300 blackout using Barnes 110gr Vor-Tx

I'm not going to index it for you.... barrels, builds, capabilities, comparisons, discussion, loads, pictures....

It helps if you're a reloader. You can take your fired 5.56 brass, cut them to length with a little chop saw, and resize them into 300 BO brass.

The only thing different between a 5.56 AR and 300 BO AR is the barrel. Uses the same mags.

Supersonics have a little more recoil than 5.56. Subsonics have a mild recoil and very quiet suppressed. People at the range oooh and ahhh over the quietness.

That was some really funny stuff and I have to assume that it was tongue and cheek, but it would be scary if you really believed it as it would prove you are clueless about the cartridge.

I like it for how good it is suppressed. Since my lady is a musician, she and I would rather she not lose her hearing, in the event of a home invasion etc. So, she has her 300BLK suppressed SBR.
Link Posted: 11/8/2014 10:52:23 AM EDT
I love it. I use a 16" to hunt with. Barnes Vor-tx bullets are devastating. I have an 8.5" SBR (can coming soon),for HD. It is really cheap to reload, and only the barrel is different than a standard ar. Also, more companies are making ammo for it and it is getting cheaper (pnw, fiocchi, etc.)
Link Posted: 11/8/2014 10:53:28 AM EDT
Pointless unless you have a source for expanding subsonic bullets and a suppressed SBR. Otherwise just buy an AK. Also be prepared to spend over $1 a round for expanding subs. I'm talking about the projectile, not the loaded round. I will have to say the ones I've gotten to shoot that were suppressed with good subsonics were well within my definition of awesome.
