They are not related.

Not in any way shape or form.

Now, spiders ARE related to scorpions though, in the sense that they are both arachnids.

My kids just asked me a question regarding spiders... After I awoke from my fainting spell Their question was (3 & 7 year olds) is an ant and spider related?

I said as far as I know, and ant is an "Insect" and a spider is an "arachnid"

Now does it fall under an arachnid can be an insect but an insect cannot be an arachnid?

Yeah yeah yeah I know... Im gonna get spider pics BUT... BUT!!!

This is a legit question.

I'll give you a straight answer.

Insects and arachnids are not the same. They are parallel categories; arachnids are not a "subtype" of insects, but rather another branch entirely. Both insects and arachnids are their own classes in the phylum Arthropoda. Arthropods are creatures with exoskeletons and jointed legs, and also include such things as crabs, lobsters, trilobites, and Teddy Kennedy.

Hope that answers your childrens' questions.

I saw that vid and did a press check...   damned if I am not sure even the holy .45 might not be a match for something like that.  That is right up there with those Dinner plate sized spiders the news had a couple years back.

As adults, Huntsman spiders do not build webs, but hunt and forage for food: their diet consists primarily of insects and other invertebrates. They live in the crevices of tree bark, but will frequently wander into homes and vehicles. They are able to travel extremely fast, and walk on walls and even on ceilings. They also tend to exhibit a "cling" reflex if picked up, making them difficult to shake off and much more likely to bite. The females are fierce defenders of their egg sacs and young. They will generally make a threat display, but if the warning is ignored they may attack and bite.

I thought
arachnids = 8 legs
insects = 6 legs

claws count on lobsters , scorpions and camel spiders

I just watched Spiderman II, so I feel qualified to answer.

Spiders aren't related to anybody except Peter Parker.
