Would you make it lawful for business to discriminate against race, color, religion, sex, etc?

As ugly as it sounds, as long as you're not killing or maiming people then it should be ok.

Yeah. I would.

That doesn't mean that I would patronize the place. I believe the market will decide if they feel such is acceptable.

The question you pose is almost like asking me if a business owner can decide to allow smoking.

I guess I believe in freedom, and if you own something, you should be free to do what you want with it.

That includes wreck it or run it into the ground.

If Joe's Whites Only Shoes opened up on Main st.

Bob's Shoes For Everyone would open right across the street.

Who do ya think would be more successful?

Awesome.  I didn't even have to write it out for myself.

This all the way.

The right to discriminate is one of our basic tenets of individual freedom.  As long as a business can stand the prospect of losing customers to businesses that don't discriminate, I say they're gtg.

It is not automatically against the law, so there would be no action necessary to make it lawful.

There is no reason a private business shouldn't be able to determine its own business practices.

But then again, I am a capitalist.  As such, I am in a distinct minority.

It didn't work that way in the real world, which is why they instituted anti-discrimination laws in the first place.

It's done great things for some people's feelings, but it sure hasn't produced the real results it was supposed to.  It's weird how we're supposed to believe all these programs are helping the poor and disadvantaged, when we still have poor and disadvantaged in spite of the programs.

I think it comes down to the downright stupid belief that government can solve all problems.
