Probably varies state to state.
I doubt they could go to bars in most, maybe all states. Might be able to share it at home. I know some states have exemptions for parents letting the kids drink if at home. |

I was just listening to a radio show and the guy on the air is 31 and married to a 19 year old. He claims they go to bars together and drink and apparently it's ok because they're married.

In tx you can. My wife drank with me in bars when I was home on leave before she was 21. They put married on her hand and she could drink up as long as I was there. Don't know if its changed, that was more than a decade ago.

You can in WI also
http://www.revenue.wi.gov/faqs/ise/atundrg.html Can children be in a bar with their parents? Yes. Persons under age 21 may be on licensed premises, and can be sold and allowed to drink alcohol beverages, if they are with their parents, guardians, or spouses, as long as those persons are of legal drinking age; but this is at the discretion of the licensee. |

In AK you can take an under aged spouse into a bar but they cannot drink - or at least you could in the 1990s.
ETA - assuming the other spouse is over 21. |

There was an old common law principle that marriage destroyed minority status. A person became of age (majority), regardless of true age, if they married. That way they could enter into contracts and do other things the law prevented minors from doing. So I guess some states extended that to drinking age.
Of course, that was in a time when many people married quite young and needed to be treated as adults. Today there are many adults who need to be treated like children. |

in texas, yes––the adult spouse of a minor is her/his legal guardian, and a minor can drink with the guardian. according to TX law, a minor in posession of alcohol must be in the visible presence of his/her guardian at all times. this means that if the adult leaves the table to go to the restroom, by law the minor cannot posess alcohol during the time that the guardian is not present.
this is the law, but many businesses have a policy of "no underage drinking, period". |

Yeah, I went to bars with my husband when he was 21, and I was still 20. I could not buy drinks myself but he could buy them for me. Perfectly legal.

The way my second cousin (my dads age) explained it to me is that your legal guardian can supply and suppervise alcohol consumption in the great state of Texas. I was in Austin and my first beer at the age of 17 was Shiner....mmmmmmm Beaten a whole bunch already. I got off the plane and we went to a place to eat. She said, you want a beer? I said, Peggy, Im only 17. She said, Honey, you're in Texas we can do that here. With the caveat of If you don't tell your Father, I won't. LOL

My wife was 20 and they served me and I could give it to her; I think TGIF was the only place that had a policy against it. This was 15 years ago but I'm pretty sure it still applies. Technically you can furnish it to your kids too but I wouldn't do that in a public place just for the possible inconvenience of it all. |
