Of what I have ever handled, I'd have to say K98. Haven' handled the Garand yet, and when I do it will be more like fondling than handling! :)

Anything with a one-piece stock and a metal buttplate. Preferably wood, but a USGI M14 fiberglass stock with the folding steel buttplate will put a hurtin' on ya too. I had an old #4 Mk1, from 1942 I think, and it had a solid brass buttplate that had to be 3/8" thick. I've always wondered at the stories it could tell, and whether it had crushed any German, Italian, Japanese, North Korean, or Chicom skulls.

M1 GARAND...... I think you guys are absolutely correct.... Memory takes me back to my trip to Nicaragua. Several people there related fascinating stories about the use of the Garand by Somoza's Nationalist "Guardia" army in Nicaragua. Back then before the Sandinista revolution, the Guardia's brutal use of the Garand to maintain order earned it the name "GARANTIZADO" (i.e. GUARANTEED), meaning guaranteed to bash in heads and drive disorderly people away. People just didn't fuck with the guards because of this, even though the guards didn't see it necessary to shoot; a little butt treatment was more than sufficient! They rarely shot at people--until the SHTF revolution, of course. One guy told me of a Sandinista rebel getting shot by a Garand through the lower back and having his entire front lower abdominal contents let loose. The bodily effect was described as a "flower in bloom". Needless to say, and as most of you already know, the 30-06 is a devastating round. This weapon was quite notorious down there--and still is.
