We're talking CAR here, no van, not truck, not motor home, not rolling mansion motor coach or tour bus, etc. Car.

The main considerations for me would be interior space, trunk space and mechanical reliability.

I thin my first choice would be a 1985 Buick LeSabre preferably with the velour interior. Comfortable, spacious and still a decent enough car to remain mechanically sound if it is maintained.

Second choice would probably be a 1982 Oldsmobile Delta 88, again with the velour.

My current ride is a Nissan 350z, and I definitely would NOT want to live in that!

Since I can't have my truck's benchseat (I've slept on it multiple times, it's actually pretty comfortable) I'll take most any land yacht.  Those big old beasts have more interior space than some truck beds with a trunk big enough to pack a small apt and they just keep going...and going...and going.

Maybe full sized Chev station wagon.

I have a Jeep Liberty –– I guess that's a "car".  I'm not sure what living in it would detail, but there's room enough in the front to store my BoB and other essentials, while the back seats lay flat to afford what I would assume to be a good place to sleep if I'm tiring of a tent.

20mpg isn't all that great, though.  Probably would have to seek out a hybrid vehicle of similar design.

Mine would be the mid 60s version of this ride. One I knew of got a lot of "living" done in it back in high school.

I'm going to steal Top Gear UK's idea and say the Audi RS6 Avant Estate (station wagon).

572 hp V-10 engine and I should be able to lie down in the back with the rear seats folded down.

Only problem is, I don't have 70,000 pounds to buy one.

An old Checker or a 1991-96 Caprice wagon. Plenty of room in that biatch.

I would drive that car right now, today. Seriously, if I knew of a good one for sale then I'd sell my car and buy it.

1981 Oldsmobile Custom Cruser.  It was the fist car I owned.  More than enough room to sleep in.  I've had this crazy idea for a while now of finding an old station wagon like that and making it 4x4.  A car like that would make a kick ass SUV.

I have "car camped" when in the field on extended projects.  My 2003 Subaru Outback makes a great mobile "tent."  But anyone taller than 5'10" or so would not fit as well.  I am not sure if the newer models have as much length (they don't look like they do).

I have also camped out of my Jeep Cherokee, it is not long enough to stretch out in.  I also have done this with a truck with a canopy, it also works well.

Been there.  1953 Dodge, Red Ram Hemi. Gyro-matic trans., Cut the back seat supports out and put 3/4 ply down. When I got the car it only had about 300k on it.  A friend and I put another 50k on it.  All over the US and made it to Banff Canada.  Very good times, Circa 1973.  Or I would choose a Citroen(Viva Le Citroen).  You can make the seats  into a very comfortable bed.

I lived in my Honda Accord 1992 EX for about seven months. I was broke and wasn't making much money. Pawned pretty much everything in storage to finally to get a place. Found a pretty decent job after that and worked my ass off. 1999-2000

Headroom - Ford Transit - double air mattresses FTW

Flex works better overall

Used a rental as a chase vehicle for a ride through the PacWest - acres of room, had to sleep in it twice during storms - got better than 25 mpg on the way. With just 1 person it'd be palatial.

Assuming I have to stay in the same location, I'd want a TDI with good a/c. Staying cool in the summer is imperative, and I could probably idle for a week on one tank of #2.
