What would you pick and why?

I chose to get pistol training first. As a civilian, I am most likely to NEED to know how to use a pistol, whether its a CCW or a pick up from a dead LEO when an active shooter is running around, or whatever other scenario ayone can dream up.

Rifles came second.

Pistol. Because it is what i have on me all the time. Remote chance i will have time to employ a long gun, even while at home if someone kicks in the door and is on me in 2 seconds.

Just my personal bias, but I've never really seen pistols as anything other than "cute" accessories to my rifle.

On the flip side, since I've trained so much with a rifle, I'd probably benefit more from pistol training.  Even though I was issued a pistol in the army, we never really received any particular training with them.

I would agree. Because handguns are more lickley to be handy when you need a gun,and they are more difficult to master than long guns.

Pistol, because I think that I am more likely to need to use the pistol to defend myself. I think that I am more likely to have a violent encounter outside of my house (where I have the pistol) than inside my house (where I have the rifle).

Pistol. Personally I think they're harder to shoot better, and rifles are pretty straightforward, especially with the longer sight radius.

I could use work on both, however.

Pistol. since it's handier, it will most likely be the one weapon you'll have access to.

Edit: Dammit, missed Post 4000

Pistol.  For all the reasons listed above.

I rarely have have a rifle with me.  Same can't be said for a pistol.

Well I got rifle first because that class was offered first. I wanted pistol, right now my pistol shooting is the focus. So the nxt class I take is again going to be a pistol class.
I always have a rifle in the trunk and it's my HD weapon of choice if it's close by. I don't always have a pistol on me execpt when I'm at home and aroun the yard. I may have one on me at other times but not always. The rifle is ALWAYS in the car.
