If you could only have one rifle for everything (SHTF, HD, TEOTWAWKI), what would you have? And why?
Link Posted: 8/3/2009 4:47:36 PM EST
M14.

It is good for everything, I can take down any game in North America with a 308 round, its proven in a urban fighting environment, and its a great long range shooter.

US Rifle, Caliber 7.62x51, M14

It will take any game in North America with good shot placement, and most with reasonable shot placement. It's strong, it's durable, and it will survive the crucible of combat. It will lay low any foe within 800 yards.

ya know i dunno, anymore, just any good rifle with range and ummph whose ammo is pretty well easily available, i woulda said sks, i voted such in the poll, but that ammo is more expensive now, something in 30.06 or 30-30 i guess, or a lever action 44 or 357(ammo availability, range not so much i guess). Anything really will do, preferably with some range on it, I mean as long as you have at least one rifle you can always get another.

I think I agree. My 16" FAL is currently my go-to rifle. As a matter of fact, it lives under the back seat in my Truck.

eta. Here it is, shooting it at a FL HTF shoot yesterday.

Yeah, and each barrel is $300.

And it is a single shot.

By the time you have bought all those barrels, you would have spent enough to buy a very nice AR.

I have a TC pistol, (30/30) I sold all my other barrels but one to buy other stuff.

It seemed like a good idea at the time, but despite appearence, and all things considered. It is a very impractle firearm. Even for just hunting.

If I only had one gun, it would be for self defense, and it would be an AR, and AK, or VZ58.

But that is just me.

I like the way you think.

It is technically only one gun.

AR

ammo is more common lighter and easy to find. and a lot faster to operate. has more flexibility, you can swap a lot of optical choices

wood will warp and change zero and crak, get waterlogged and heavy,

I know this is going to sound Fudd-like, but I don't think I'd want a semi auto for my one and ONLY rifle as my preps for the End times.
Probably something more like a bolt action in a plentiful caliber like .308

Winchester Model 70 in 308. Bolt actions are untouchable in terms of absolute reliability and longevity.

Why would you ask that? SNL hasnt been funny for over 20 years!

It's funny how there are so many old steel rifles still around that were built so long ago.
I'd take one of those steel rifles that starts with an M has a 1 in the middle and a 4 at the end. Built to last.

This is a stupid poll.
If your wife lets you have only one rifle then you may consider other women.
Every rifle was designed for a particular purpose around one particular round.

It would be a four way tie between my M-16A1 clone, Garand, SKS, and AK.

Really, probably my Garand,
And a suppressed Glock 19.

lol, you just asked this question on www.ar15.com, wtf answer did you think you were going to get?

BTW, as close as you can get to a G3 will serve perfectly as a single gun... and much better than an FAL .
