and only one for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?

I would gave to go with a *new* Preban HK91, folding stock. Great quality, accuracy is good, decent magazine capacity, good caliber (.308) for many uses, and reliable. Tyler

M1A. Edited to delete an inside joke that offended another member. No offense intended Hunter, were all brothers in arms here. And if I put a "[:D]" by something, it's usually intended as humor. I deleted my post that followed, as I didn't want this to turn into a pissing match.

The M1A until it is banned, and then the .308 Enfield.

Depends on what day of the week you ask me . . . If we are going to go by what choice after our real choice is "banned," I am going to nominate my trusty slingshot. Oh wait a sec, someday "they" will be after that too . . .

Probably the AR, even though it would be a tough choice between it and the AK. Accuracy and smooth shooting, or super reliability and ruggedness. I guess it would all depend on the terrain.

FN FNC. Operating system similar to AK and takes AR mags. Looks very cool too. Easily converted to NFA, for a decent price. All in al, its a great little gun! fuatos I forgot, its built by Fabrique Nationale. Great lineage to hail from!!!

If it was the last rifle, to last me for 30-40 more years, I'd have to make it an AK. Not for it's accuracy, not for it's ergonomics. No, for those, the AR is tops. For it's robust failproof design. I saw an AK made in 1953 about 15 years ago. It had been part of a weapons cache in a cave on Grenada. Even after a heck of a scrub it had rust on the bolt carrier and in the barrel. Salt air I guess. Defeated even the chrome. Still functioned 100%, even the magazines did too. If I knew I'd have access to replacement parts, barrels and mags, It'd be the AR.

Savage Model 99 in .300 Savage. THE primo deer gun of all time. Since the .300 Savage is a ballistic twin of the .308, the piece is also more than sufficiently powerful and accurate to allow me to "harvest" all the AR's and AK's I want from comfortably outside the range at which the typical UN grunt might effectively employ those weapons.

For practicality sake, I'd probably say my AR-15, because of available parts and ammo circulating about the civilian population, as well as with the government. My preference is really the FN-FAL, but it would be harder to maintain without a ready supply of parts and ammo.

Either a Special Weapons HK Clone, a Mini-30, a High-Point Carbine or a Professional Ordnance AR-15. When only the best and most reliable weapons will do... [:D] Seriously though, I'd give my right arm for a Sig 550, especially here in Kali... Actually I wouldn't, considering it would be useless if I didn't have a right arm [:D] But if I could get any one rifle I'd get that, either the normal one or the sniper version.

Something in 9mm with about a five yard long barrel. Then, cut up the barrel into 6" lengths and make a forest of silenced Stens. If that's cheating I'm with Cyrax777.
