If you could have any machine gun what would it be. I am thinking I would go for a M60, or maybe a Gatling gun. What are your thoughts?

M2...good choice...I enjoyed firing it, but being the 60 gunner, I have a special place in my heart for lugging that around. Isn't it against the Geneva Convention to shoot someone with the M2?

GE Mini gun.... mmmmm.... I'd like me some of that...
I'd hit it |

I like the GE MINIGUN...looks tuff! Wonder how much one would cost.

MAG 58

Another vote for a MAG 58.
By the way according to Henry Bowman the M-60 was on of the worst MG ever made. Any truth to what he says ? |

It was a little heavy, especially with the barrel bag, and all the accessories. |

View Quote I wouldn't say the 60 is any where near the worst machine guns.... Many people are very partial to the 60, including many military personnel on this board who have used the 60... I always like it, except for one minor incident, but we won't get into that... |

Is this a better MG42?
It is a dual setup![^] |

MG42 for ammo cost reasons (and it's just plain cool anyway...)
|

Only one,,,, that's no fair at all.
Although not really a MG a gatling would be fun, but for real business I really like the M2. Ol JMB knew what he was doing when he designed that one. jj |

I know it is not fair, list all you like, I just enjoy mass stopping power!!!

M60 or an MP44/StG44.
While not a grunt, I usually got stuck with my section's M60 during my years of service , and they were reliable and fun as long as you slavishly maintianed them and had an idea about what you were doing. The key was always making sure that you kept the gas cylinder clean; it had to be absolutely free of oil and you had to scrape the carbon and copper build-up off of it. A former grunt told me it would be much more reliable and if you lubed the gas cylinder with the Lithium grease intended for the Bradley's M252 Bushmaster cannon, and that always seemed to help. |

MP44

Mini-gun would be too expensive to shoot, plus you would have to shoot at cars and stuff like that to get enjoyment. Not many places here in VA where you can shoot at cars. [:)]
Either a M2, M60, MG34 or MG42. Or one of each. [:D] |

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Quoted: Isn't it against the Geneva Convention to shoot someone with the M2? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Urban legend. View Quote I agree. I had heard that before but got to thinking, since the deployment of the Barrett .50 M82 as a sniper rifle, why would it be against the G.C. to shoot personnel with an M2, but ok to shoot personnel with an single round of .50? Then there's the case of Carlos Hathcock who used an modified M2 with a scope to make a succesful shot and hit a enemy soldier. Anyway, I agree with Pony. Just my 2 cents that made me go, "hmmmm". but to answer the original question, i would chose the M4 with the M203. also, can i have an unlimited lifetime supply of ammo, practice rounds and 40 mike mikes??? please? |

First choice would be a 30 mm GAU-8/A seven-barrel Gatling gun. You know, the thing they stick under the A-10's nose? [:P]
It might be somewhat difficult to mount it to my little 4X4 Ranger, but I'd figure out how! After that I'd have to go with the Ma-Duce! [red]Libertas an Mortis!![/red] |

20mm Chain Gun
|

MP44's an assault rifle
Anything 20mm or 30mm isn't a machine gun, it's a CANNON! In fact, the 12.7mm can be thought of as either a heavy machinegun or light portable cannon. I think HMG is a better description though. |

The MK46 MOD 0 is a special model of the M249 developed to meet a US Special Operations requirement for a lightweight variant of the M249 that would retain the intrinsic functionality and reliability of the standard model. A 4.1 pound weight reduction was achieved by using a new lightweight barrel (available in standard and fluted) and removing the carrying handle, magazine well and vehicle mounting lugs (for vehicle applications). Unique to the MK46 MOD0 is Picatinny Rails that accommodate scopes, laser designators and flashlights. It also has a forward pistol grip and a detachable bipod. |

M60E4 for me! Of course, we'll have to have a ^%$#$ revolution in this country for me ever to be able to own one! [:(] |

You can not technically use a .50 for shooting at people, but, you can use it to destroy gear, like buttons on uniforms. If there happens to be an office in the uniform then that is just collaterall damage.
I have an uncle who destroyed material in Korea with a MADUCE, using ammo loaded by hand in Quantico. You know those buttons can be mighty small.[;)] |

Wicked pics dudes!!!
I'd have to pick the MG-42, talk about a weapon ahead of it's time. Can you imagine being a GI in, say, Hirtengem (sp?) Forest going up against emplaced MG-42's ripping out 8mm Mauser (.30-06 equiv) at 1200rpm? I can't!! Those fuckers had stones the size of cantalopes!!!! -Eric PS - 2nd place has gotta be the M2 |

First choice:M1910 Russian Maxim watercooled with the wheeled mount & shield
7.62x54R is fairly cheap, the Maxim chugs along at a nice sewing machine like pace & water cooled beltfeds are just neat. A Colt 'potato digger' M1895 would be near the top of my list also (then again I like Nagant revolvers & other weird, esoteric iron). Air cooled I'd go for a MG42 or maybe a Bren/Zb30. Where does a BAR fit in? If it counts as a MG then it would be tied with the MG42 on my wish list. |

FN MAG 58 My Dream HOG |

I would not, to much money in ammo, and it makes you a bad rifleman. (IMO)

And if it were banned...it would be the one of the Hague conventions covering it not the Geneva convention. |

my dream machine gun would be either a full auto SW5 or a Mini-14.

If I could only have one, I'd go for the M16. And, get a big heap of uppers and conversion parts for it!
