Or .45 ACP. Even though 9mm is the most popular, we can't use it 'cause it's Nazi.

ETA: Maybe we should have a good old-fashioned Arfcom poll.

9x19mm Parabellum was made by Germans yes, but not Nazi's. The cartridge was around for 20+ years before the Nazi's came to power.

30-06, for sure.

I'm surprised, however, that nobody's nominated the 30-30.

Not funny, dude.

30-06

Was good enough to win two world wars, should be good enough to be the national round.

5.56mm rifle

9mm pistol

Which is pretty much what it is right now... NATO standard...

Nominating obselete rounds (30-06, .45ACP) may be a tribute to the pig-headedness that created .308 Winchester....

But that's hardly something to celebrate... Although the .308 is a decent round for belt fed weapons...

And if we had had 5.56mm & the AR back then?

Sorry, but 30-06 still being issued as an individual rifle round when WWII started was the result of the Ordnance Dept plugging it's ears & screaming TRADITION! The same thing that got us those stupid en-bloc loaders for the Garand vis-a-vis a real box mag...

Not some superiority of the round itself...

Yes, that is a picture of the Pentagon after 9/11.

And that is not funny.
