With all the new "security measures" in place right now,and the fact we're about to arm pilots........What is to stop a well seeded cell, from gaining an armed pilot?

What's to stop them from getting an unarmed one/ What's to stop them from prepositioning weapons on board with the galley servicing coprporation? What's to stop them from using a Grail, Stinger, Redeye, or Blowpipe? All those stupid "security" measures are a bunch of crap there to provide the illusion of safety where none can possibly ever exist. You pays your money and you takes your chances.

Nothing is perfect.  You gotta play the odds my man.  One rag might defeat the system and do his evil deed by posing as a pilot.  Odds are, however, that an armed American pilot would take out the next rag who attempts evil.  Many more American pilots so the odds favor good vs evil.

The only thing standing between us and another hijacking is commited PASSENGERS.  (Unless you count the F-16 orders.)  So far, every idiot that has tried has been subdued, though unfortunately not killed, by the passengers.

I can not believe the resistance to a very simple concept:  The pilot and co-pilot have guns.  You risk safe conduct of the flight, they will kill you.  Currently, unarmed pilots depend on unarmed passengers to control things.  Nobody in their right mind thinks the TSA is protecting them from anything!

People on the ground are a little protected by the possibility an F-16 will be in range and can shoot down a hijacked aircraft and that it will crash in an unpopulated area.  RIGHT!  What morons!!!   Only thing being protected is politicians asses, and with no regard for the rest of the population.

We remain frighteningly vulnerable.  We are marking time until the other shoe drops and doing damn little to prevent it.

Or from recruiting an unarmed pilot and flying the plane into the sea? (Oops, that one already happened...)

Military pilots have been routinely armed since the days of the Wright brothers. Anyone ever heard of a military plane being hijacked for use as a flying bomb? Didn't think so...

What, so he can shoot the passengers before crashing the plane into the Empire State Building?  What's the point??

Finally, a security action other than a knee-jerk reaction to satisfy public opinion.

The best security is to educate the passengers.  For security you need to use your biggest/best asset. It's cheap to educate when you compare the check point measures and the new secure cockpit doors.

Arming pilots has always been an easy decision for me. It's a choice between a stray bullet and an F-16.
