How many rounds would you have to shoot through it to make sure it was "good".

For example, if you hadn't shot it yet you'd want to try it out to make sure there were no factory defects...however rare those might be.

If you had shot 10 rounds through it, you'd probably have more confidence than having shot zero rounds but probably not enough to call it "good to go".

So how many rounds does it take?

Same as your other AR thread.

500 using as many different and numbered topped off mags as possible.

Two separate questions, mixing the threads would start and AR vs AK comparison which is not my intention.

I want two separate discussions about two separate topics.

I put about 200 rounds using assorted magazines through my M-9 before I started using it as my EDC, in case that is your next thread.

I believe you do not even shot anything through an AK before you throw it in the trash.  Once it is good to go it just goes directly into the trash.

Brand new???  I'll shoot however many rounds to sight in and play around a while.  Maybe I lose interest, maybe not.

Not all of my guns were bought or intended to be my go to guns though.  So my AK's have between 100-1K rounds thru them.  My 14.5 LMT and my 11.5 Colt have run thru many K.  Same with my Sig's.

How does anyone "by an AK"?  Not familiar with said terminology.  I once bought an AK which is the past tense and past participle of the word "buy".  I assume others would buy an AK, but they could never by an AK without a verb to define what one actually does by an AK.

So.... for a serious answer, which I know is somewhat of a mistake here in GD. For some damn reason, I got bit by the AK bug hard before the election. Its been a pretty new sub culture to dive into & what I've found is this.

Someone mentioned 500 rounds & thats about right. 500-1000 rounds is right around the mark where you will begin to see if there are areas that are slamming together & causing unnecessary contact & wear. If you watch any of Rob ski's videos on the tubes, thats about the point that things start showing up on the BCG, bolt & trunnion. After that, is when things will start to fall apart, if there are other weak areas, furniture coming loose, breaking etc.

Just watch a bunch of AKOU videos & take some notes, he does a really good job wringing some of the most well known examples on the market. Other than that, AK fanbois are the fuckign worst. They are so full of derp, it makes me want to vomit at times. The sentiment around AK's to throw them in the trash can is on point & applies to errythang, especially the fanbois.. good lord

That said, still buying a few moar soon, cause reasons & 'Merica

Pretty much this right here.  I have never had a bad AK even the el cheapo ones from yesteryear ran fine all the time.  I would try every polymer mag I have because I have had issues with some of them not seating correctly.

Usually 200 rounds for any weapon to loosen up.  I'm really testing the mags, not the weapon.
