I mean, the cops would probably be out for themselves, or protecting their paymasters, the gutless politicians, who of course now fear the mob more than they care for the citizen...
We already got a preview of this scenario during the LA riots... So, would you let them burn down your neighborhood, or would you get tactical? Got enough ammo? |
|
I don't think I'd be "out" shooting looters, but I'd be at home awaiting them.
|
|
Of course I wouldn't let them burn down my neighborhood. The REAL question is, if they were in a nearby neighborhood but leaving mine alone, would I leave my girlfriend at my place to "bar the door" and go out to that neighborhood to go Urban Looter Huntin' just because I could probably get away with it?
You should post a poll I think. Not on your question, on mine! |

Well, if ya leave your house, it might burn like the rest of them. However, during the initial onset if you vaporize some thugs head with a .308 two things could happen - they'll run away and not return....or come back with goodies of their own.
So, only choice, lay down as much firepower with the help of neighbors and family members so that they're ARENT any to come back. I'm the only fella on my block, that could arm the entire block. [;)] Reminder to self: Get a beltfed, and sandbag second story widnow. |
|
I'd only shoot he ones carrying cool stuff.
And I'd let them carry it closer to my place first. |
|
I doubt they'd be carring any "neat" stuff...maybe Jennings .25s, shotguns, 9mms...probably not anything like we have, but they would probably have the numbers...
|

Anything you say on this board can, and will, be used against you in a court of law...

I'd be going door to door taking your guns from you as per the Captain's orders......dressed as a mall ninja

I can't imagine many members of this site out there looting. Dedicated vigilance against potential home invasion, abso-friggin-lutely!
Will I eliminate anyone threatening my home with fire or firearms, abso-friggin-lutely! After hurricane Andrew in 1992, my girlfriends dad and I had to chase off looters every night for almost two weeks. He had a shotgun with a maglight duct taped to it and I used Marlin lever action 44mag. It got hairy a couple times during that fortnight! |

Id like to be the first kid on my block to...Oh, I mean give huggs and stuff.
|
|
I'd protect myself and my house with whatever means I had. I would not go on a roof top somewhere to snipe looters somewhere else. I'll mind my own buisness untill the situation gets to my street. once on my street, its war.

If the SHTF your only source for essentials after they run out MAY be looting. Survival of the fittest (well armed). SHTF is not the LA riots. If you think that a neighborhood having a tissy fit is SHTF you are sadly mistaken.

Edited because my Grandmother said if you have nothing nice to say then just say nothing.

View Quote That's OK.......We've got "numbers" also, numbers like "1,000 rounds per case" or "280 rounds per sealed battle pack".......and "2 magazines per pouch". Everytime I go to the range I watch people. Not 1 in 10 has much of a clue about their own firearms. Many shooters I see are paper punchers and not "action" inclined. Their weapons are dirty and they have 1, maybe 2 magazines. The "Gangstas" buy junk, shoot junk, and spray! Now, I'm not counting on that, just assessing the opposition. It's the night-time when things get "interesting". |

The LAPD showed what they would do.
You're on your own in a SHTF scenario. Look at the Koreans; they were armed, worked together and they did very well defending themselves and their property in the LA Riots of 1992. |

hhhmmmmmmm,
Wonder if .270WSM 140gr Failsafes would make a good anti-personell round........ |

I am not into going out and shoot at anyone....But in self defense and protecting my home...Yes.
As for preparedness, anyone here knows exactly what to do. |

lets say looters are in season. if i place my TV out in the yard, is that considered baiting?

I'm not sure what you consider SHTF, but "looters will be shot" was standard procedure here during the '89 earthquake, and has been well documented following hurricanes/tornados in other regions.

View Quote Yup. A buddy of mine had his reserve unit activated and sent down to Homestead, FL after Hurricane Andrew. He said that neighborhoods organized armed watch groups, and did repel a few boarders. Signs were posted at intersections warning parasites of the inadvisability of trying to jack anything out of particular streets. |

There's good money to be made protecting the property of small business owners. Just make sure you get cash up front and establish a per-head bonus before the shooting starts.

Loot for ammo, and supplies. Fuel also. |

I always eat what I kill. So, I guess if I got really hungry...
|
|
Damn skippy I would. I live in an apartment complex with only two entrances. It'd be pretty easy for a "neighborhood watch" to effectively deter looters.
Remember to separate between "looters", who are scavengers looking for easy pickings, from "attackers", who for some reason are attacking your home and are dedicated enough to put up a sustained fight. Looters are usually lazy/hungry/opportunists who will probably be happy to move along rather than brave withering rifle fire to steal your TV set. Attackers are... umm, MARPAT-clad undead space nazis. Yeah. |

Call it a Hedge Fund
1/2 day looting 1/2 defending the loot A man's got to know his limitations. |

In 92' we were ready to move south if we had to, but the CHP road closures would have made it a 12 hour trip out to the central valley and through Riverside to get to my Uncles in Orange County.
But the riots never came near the Orange Curtain. The OCSD made sure of that. So we never had to. There are actually more Asians in Orange County than in LA proper, quite a few drove in to help their relatives in LA, in spite of efforts by the two sheriffs departments to keep them out. And just like them I would have gone in to protect/retreve relatives cut off by rioters. Its still a far more likely scenereo than having a SHTF situation here where I live in the middle of nowhere surrounded by a whole lot of nothing. I still have relatives living in the south of the Peoples Republic of California. |
