I've heard rumors over the last few days that DSA is negotiating with Steyr to start building AUG's in the US.

If they pull this off, I'm going to being SOOOO broke !

Anybody else in the same boat?  Anybody have more info (SteyrAUG maybe?)???

edited to add a pic.... damn these things are cool !

I wouldn't want an AUG.

Thanks for asking.

I plan on buying one when and if they become available.
Link Posted: 1/2/2004 10:38:06 AM EDT
As long as you can switch them from right handed configuration to left handed like the original.

I love bullpups, but being left handed is a bitch when trying to use one.

The gun is like Coors beer, when it was only available in limited quantity, everyone wanted it, when it became available, almost no one wanted it, the same will happen with the AUG.

IMO it is the greatest battle implement ever devised.
Link Posted: 1/2/2004 11:23:40 AM EDT
No, I will not be buying one. I would however buy a G36 if HK starts producing them here.

Maybe.  Depends on a couple factors, mainly price.  How much for the gun, how much for the mags, how much for the parts?

I'd probably spend $1500 tops on a preban version (assuming the ban went away) otherwise I'd rather just get a USR.

AUG mags are pretty expensive already, unless the ban goes away and they can make some new ones (or import some) that price will only go up with an AUG rerelease.  Maybe they could throw in an adaptor for AR mags.  Or import a crap load of preban mags.

I'm a lefty, so I need a lefty bolt.  I assume this thing could be swapped from right to left like the real thing, otherwise no dice.

Eitherway, it's always nice to have options.

I've wanted an AUG ever since DIE HARD came out, maybe this is my big chance. [:D]

HELL YES OVER HERE!

If I can use AR mags, yes, but otherwise no.

I would I like the AUG.

The second they start taking pre-orders my money will be in the mail! Hopfully they will be offering different barrel lengths, especially the 24" Hbar, that's one of the best things about the AUG system is the interchangable barrles.

Ditto

It depends on how well they do it!  Of course, it will be after my money goes to Armalite, should they produce a semiautomatic clone of an original Dutch AR10.

That makes two of us. AUG's are a wonder of engineerning with no more that a couple of peers. I've fired them and was most impressed at the efficiency of design and human engeneering put into it. Oh and they are all but indistructible and reliable as all hell too.

depends on how they do it.

If its some cheesy overpriced intreperation.(like the usr) Im not going anywhere near it.

I wont be.

Ever know one of those gals in high school that you would have done if you could have put a paper bag over her head?  That's how I feel about the AUG.
Link Posted: 1/2/2004 2:38:48 PM EDT
I'd only want one if it could take AR mags.
Link Posted: 1/2/2004 3:57:49 PM EDT
What dport said. I'm a lefty.
Link Posted: 1/2/2004 4:03:36 PM EDT
Depends on the price. Anything over $800 it's NO.
Link Posted: 1/2/2004 4:06:30 PM EDT
If it can use AR mags, go lefty, and is under $1000 I might be game.

Would it be like a 2-bagger?[:|]

One over the AUG and one over your head in case the other one comes off![lol]

2-bagger?  I was almost that drunk - once!

If it was under $1100, had a choice of optics (rail,) reasonably priced mags, and didn't have the USR butthole stock, sure!

I have always wanted an AUG.  I also happen to think DSA will do a great job with it.

With that said, I seriously doubt I would buy one.  I'm just not into collecting anymore.  I'm into things I can and will use, and one more .223 rifle, with a screwy manual of arms, isn't something I'd use.

That's not to say that I would turn down a free one.
Link Posted: 1/2/2004 5:36:27 PM EDT
Well, I won't be buying one.  I got a Steyr version.  Candidly, I don't think DSA will  make one.  And I think they are making a mistake getting into AR15s.  Some here seem to think my comments on that issue are offbase and it is  a good thing for us to have more vendors.

Guess what, it is good for us.  I think it is a bad decision for DSA.  AR15s are a commodity market now.  And there are enough vendors in it to reduce prices to a low margin already.

if I were DSA I would put my efforts into projects other than ARs or Augs.  Perhaps an American made HK36 compatible with current auto sears?  Or enhance the FAL further with better triggers and barrels.  whatever.  But not a commodity market.  No money in it.  My 2 cents.

Oh, here is the original Aug.   My guess is if DSA makes them it won't hurt the value of mine all that much.
