Steel spam-can type ammo can.

Soldered lid.

Steel wire with pull tabs.  Pull the tabs, and the wire cuts through the solder, so the lid is easily removed.

What kind of seal is that?  There has to be a term for it.

I need to seal some concrete lids to a septic tank, and I want to use RTV and aircraft cable in the same way the steel wire was used with the lead solder.

But when I try to describe how it works, I want to refer to the type of seal used on those old ammo cans.

That was a long time ago.  There are probably not many who remember them.  Just call them Reaper Pulls and pretend that you invented them.

Sorry, nothing useful.

So, you WERE there when I tried opening one...  only to have the rusty wire break at the solder.
