I've had a POF AR10 lower laying around for a year or so that did some trading for. I think it's time I make it into something that goes bang. I really don't want another .308 since I have 3 of them so I am trying to decide what caliber would fun to build. I will most likely want to build something long range and have considered a .243 or .260 but I have both of those on custom built bolt actions. Let's see what ideas GD has.

Thanks in advance.

Two big frame builds I have wanted is a thumper in .450 marlin or a long range set up in .300RCM. for the .450 I wanted to get a custom 14" light weight barrel and pin on a 2" high effiicientcy brake. with the .300 RCM I was thinking Maybe a 22" medium contour fluted barrel with a custom length gas system. Or maybe even necking the RCM down to .260 or .284. I dont have the skills for brass forming but I could learn.

i am in a similar boat.

i think i decided on a .260rem but i am not sure which uppers i could use that will fit well with the POF lower.

Is there a reason it wouldn't be possible to build one in 7.62x54r?

I think the round is too long to fit in the mags.  also, i don't think that rimmed case would feed very well.  it would be an interesting gun in theory though.

.243 is long range?

Sure it is.
My dad worked up some SCREAMING hand loads back in the day, those suckers would reach for days.
6mm flies pretty well, all things considered.

How about a PredatOBR in 260?

Well if you change your mind to some shorter range stuff, the .338 Federal seems to be a popular choice.

w/ newer heavier bullets and a fast twist barrel, hell yeah it is.  There there is something else, is it 6xC, maybe not...but it a 243 shortened ever so slightly to be able to feed a particular extra extra long bullet through an ar10 mag. It is all the craze now for certain competitive shooters, GA precsiion is making them.

6mmCR there was a recent thread this came up several times.

338 Federal?  338 with a 308 case.
