Last week I took a trip out to the Olympic Peninsula for a vacation and of course I got a little fishing in.

I had never been to the peninsula before, so I was flying by the seat of my pants, with a little research and Wild Ass Guess, I picked the Bogachiel River as a place to check out

We fished the Bogachiel outside the town of Forks, WA,  the water was elevated and fast, as well as off color, so conditions weren't exactly ripe for the pickings

Seeing this in the raceway up to the hatchery was a good sign of things to come

I wasn't fishing with the most hard-core of friends, so we didn't go to long, but still successful

I caught this small guy first, approx. 4 lbs, not super bright, but still in good shape

My good friend Jerrod got his first ever steelhead, a nice 30" fish that I'd guess around 10 lbs

I finished up the day with this nice chromer, just under 30" and approx 9.5-10lbs

Putting the wood shampoo to my second keeper

A nice net full

1 and 1/2 fish prepped for the grill later that evening

On the grill with some Mule Deer Steak

Now for some scenic shots along the trip

Lake Cresent in Olympic National Park

Pike Market

Tongue Point State Park

Shore birds at Tongue Point

Harlequin Ducks

Historic Part Gamble ferry

Mr. Eagle

Hope you guys enjoy!

Hahaa I never have thought of river fishing up there. Every time I have fished up there was out in the straits.  Those are some amazing fish ! . Were there other people out fishing? Were you actually fishing steelhead ?

We saw a handful of people fishing, a couple guys above us hooked up a few but lost every one of them in the heavy current, we were intentionally targeting steelhead as the winter run was in full-force on the Bogachiel

Very nice! Floating your own eggs? I miss eating winter steelhead.

Just bobber and jig, I didn't have any eggs cured up, and we hooked 5 fish in 4 hours, I couldn't complain with those results
