Yes, I see the irony of my user name.

Considering moving to AZ or NM for work.  Both NM and AZ seem to have similar tax rates and similar gun laws.

Any reason why I should pick one or the other?   Assuming you'd get paid the same, which would you choose?
Link Posted: 4/22/2016 12:08:05 AM EDT
Tough pick.  NM is beautiful but it is really poor and very rural.  AZ seems to have a bit more functioning infrastructure.
Link Posted: 4/22/2016 12:08:38 AM EDT
AZ is a lot more modern.
Link Posted: 4/22/2016 12:10:50 AM EDT
NM is a barren wasteland of depression,  alcoholism and tumbleweeds.

You couldn't make me live there with a gun at my back.
Link Posted: 4/22/2016 12:10:59 AM EDT
NM for sure.
Link Posted: 4/22/2016 12:11:57 AM EDT
Both are full.

Yup... used to go there on business.... would never live there.... unless someone gave me 1000 acres and enough to retire. I suppose if you want to disappear and avoid any populated areas targeted by Chinese nukes it might be OK

Well, to be fair, so are parts of AZ.
Link Posted: 4/22/2016 12:17:31 AM EDT
Have you considered WY?
Link Posted: 4/22/2016 12:26:49 AM EDT
I'd choose AZ but I'm currently stationed in NM.  NM is poor (average household income is around 37k), once you leave the city there isn't shit for a couple hours, retarded amounts of DWIs with people receiving 3, 5, 9, 10, and even 16, if you have kids or plan on them the school system sucks, and lots of crime (everything from auto theft to drugs to murders)
Link Posted: 4/22/2016 12:27:43 AM EDT
I like ABQ, with the understanding that it is a backwater.

Not sure about anywhere else.

No kids to consider.

FPNI.

Our gun laws are better here In AZ.

If I had millions, I'd buy a decent pad on 10,000 acres in bumfuk, NM, and never see a person unless I absolutely had to. It really is a beautiful state.

Then you're surrounded by retards who can't drive worth a shit.  282 days till I'm out of this cesspool.

I lived in SE Arizona for a while, loved it there except for the fact this was while the housing bubble was still filling up with air and people from CA were driving the house prices up to idiotic levels right at the time I got there.

NM...well I got a sunburn on my leg, through jeans, with the top up on my Jeep crossing the less than 100 miles from the TX border to the AZ border right when the sun was coming up. So I don't really have fond memories of NM.
Link Posted: 4/22/2016 12:31:31 AM EDT
The only place worth a fuck in NM is Taos.
Link Posted: 4/22/2016 12:32:34 AM EDT
Born & raised in NM, lived in AZ for a year, then moved to CO. NM will always be my home, but, CO sure is nice. Between your 2 options listed, if you can stand the oven heat - AZ. If not, NM is the best choice plus, the food is amazing

I used to think the same, but there are parts of NM that are really quite stunning. Some of my best experiences in life so far have been fighting fire in the Gila NF, and a couple other locale in NM.

Places like Albuquerque and most other larger cities do the state no justice.

Better check the crime stats.  I know it isn't good for New Mexico.

Psst.  Stay out of Raton and Albuquerque, NM.
Link Posted: 4/22/2016 12:46:36 AM EDT
Albuquerque gets snow, just an FYI.

Couldn't pay me to live there again.
Link Posted: 4/22/2016 12:48:36 AM EDT
AZ has the sprawling metropolis of Phoenix, as well as plenty of wide open spaces. I personally like the conveniences of the big city. If I could live anywhere in the state, I'd probably pick somewhere up north, around Flagstaff - better weather, and still wide open spaces.

I have to agree with this. NM comes in dead last out of all the states in the west by virtually every important measure.

Edit: Be aware that the PHX metro area is like living inside a raging forest fire in the summer. The first one is a real shocker

Oklahoma panhandle comes close.

Few things make Eastern Colorado seem appealing.

Arizona is not all oven heat. From Central to northern AZ the temperature is much better and the southerns come up to cool off.Anywhere south of AZ and it starts getting crazy hot.

What's your trade?

Your fingers will melt to the steering wheel at least 4 months of the year, for sure. But on the plus side, drinking water cools you down really well, unlike the more humid places of the world (like my previous residence in E Texas).

When was the last time you were there? I've seen several advertisements driving through in Chino, PV and in Prescott looking for workers.

AZ has the best gun laws in the country. Very moderate winters and brutal summers. Phoenix has a lot going for it. Shit Travis Haley lives here...

The most depressing town I've ever spent time in was in NM. My only complaint about AZ would be the school system. So, if there aren't any kids in the picture, I'd say AZ.
