Don't we have Satellites or sensors, or something to tell when they are digging?

Border Agents Discover U.S.-Mexico Tunnel

SAN DIEGO

Border Patrol agents discovered a 35-foot-long tunnel beneath the U.S.-Mexico border after it caved in and the asphalt roadway above it collapsed, officials said.

The tunnel ended in a patch of vacant land near the San Ysidro port of entry, said Lauren Mack, a spokeswoman for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. She said it was about 3 feet by 3 feet and appeared to have been used recently.

It wasn't immediately clear when the tunnel was built or whether it might have been used for smuggling drugs or people.

Authorities sealed off the U.S. side with sandbags and metal after discovering it on Monday, Mack said.

The tunnel is across the border from an area that is either owned or leased by Mexican Customs.

More than a dozen tunnels have been found along the southwestern border in recent years. In 2003, Border Patrol agents found a tunnel that originated in a private house in Mexico and ended in a parking lot on the U.S. side. A year later, U.S. authorities found evidence that someone was trying to rebuild the passageway.

"We do believe it's a trend where smugglers are attempting to go underground after 9/11 as a result of the heightened security," Mack said.

What a joke

Some of these are sophisticated. They begin in Mexico in a house or warehouse and come up in a like manner.

[illegal supporter]They are good people they just don't want to overload the legal border crossing points
or have to inconvenience the poor overworked immigration officials[/illegal supporter]

Digging tunnels and entering the country illegally is just a victimless crime

the most advanced sensors and equipment are useless if NO ONE IS PAYING ATTENTION.

My solution, and maybe it's just me: Electric fence with enough voltage to cook anything that comes to close.....40ft high and 50ft in the ground

Just a thought

Whats needed to see tunneling????????? Ground penetrating radar. High end professional treasure hunters use it all the time.

Bright orange water stations at 50m intervals.

How about air-conditioned buses to just bring them in? At taxpayers expense, of course.

Ok, what about everything after the first 70 yards?

DAMN!!!
They got the idea from the old Bugs Bunny cartoons.

when they find a tunnel, they should put a claymore in it to close it off, but for the safety of the person setting the mine, they should hook up a trip wire in the tunnel. that way the mine goes off hours after the mine setter has cleared out of the tunnel

now for the serious part, they should drive steel pipes at one foot intervals down 10 feet in the areas where the tunnels show up, or just as good a concrete mout thats 10 feet deep with the fence on one side, you would only need a 10 foot fence, becuase it would be a 20 foot obstical, and they would have to dig down at least 10 feet to get under the mout

Set up a deer stand every 100 yards. Let people use the stands for free and pay the hunters for what they bring down. Year round hunting season on the southern boarder. this would slow down the the jumpers real quick.

Angry Texans with high powered deer rifles. The answer to all our nations problems.

Not only would it help the immigration problem, but it would be fun as well.

Well I guess we need tunnel rats for the mexican border, the border will most likely become a real horror story, I hope none of our border patrol officers are hurt before homeland security finally takes a stand
