I got Ice Cream and Custard.
Took me 30 years to choke down another custard. Prayers for little man! |

Love the pic. I have lots of great memories working in the garden with my granddaddy.
Prayers in bound. |

My mom swears one of us wouldn't have survived mine being removed without peppermint ice cream.

Had mine out about that age. Don't even remember it. |

Is that an inkie mark on his arm?
Prayers sent I remember it was ice cream and jello for me when I had it done |

Praying. And don't worry, you're doing the right thing. I had mine out at 28. He will be much healthier. Also, ice cream is ok, but slurpees are better.

But I also remember when I face planted into concrete and busted my two front teeth too. Douche bag spraying me with a super soaker, I go to dodge the spray hit a bush and bam! |

Prayers sent. My boy got his out at 3.5. He got his tonsils and adenoids taken out. They say it will take an adult about 3 weeks to recover from a procedure like that but kids take about a week. They told us not to let our son eat real food for two weeks so it was a lot of applesauce and mac and cheese, and ice cream. My son got very dehydrated because the pain meds they had him on made him so sick he didn't want to eat or drink so keep an eye on that and you may have to adjust. We ended up back at the ER and had to get him hooked up to an IV but he was good as new after that. He will be fine, just keep him drinking. Gatorade and Pedialyte have some good electrolytes in them so keep some of that on hand for the hydration. Best of luck.

We just had our son's tonsils taken out earlier this year.
Two things that you need to know: #1. Ice cream and all dairy products were recommended only after day 3. (It causes phlegm and thus coughing. You don't want him to cough, if you can help it.) Day 1 thru 3 we fed him popsickles, jello and pedialite. #2 After about a week, he got horrible earaches in the middle of the night mostly. (Screaming bloody murder type earaches) We were told this is normal, just be prepared. This is when we gave him the hard stuff (Codeine is what we had a script for, iirc), and within 15-20 minutes the little guy was back asleep. Overall, we are so glad we went through with the procedure. eta: Prayers sent. |

Prayers sent. Have a 3 yr old as well prepping for the same thing. Ugh the thought
Of him going under the knife at that age has got be on edge. |

First day or so will be rough but he will be good to go once healed. My daughter had that done last summer at the same age and it was the best thing we could have done for her.

Cute as a bug in a rug.
Prayers sent. Let us know how he's doing. |

Had my sons removed at a slightly higher age. He also had his adenoid removed and the turbinates drilled at the same time. No real tips, just either you or the wife needs to spend a week at home with him minimum. Had to force my boy to drink enough, that was the only real difficulty.

Prayers sent for all.
Discuss risks, and their signs and symptoms with the doctors. Follow the doctor's instructions, keep a close eye on him until he is fully recovered. Keep plenty of cold drinks (ice water, or favorite fruit juice) and ice chips to keep him hydrated. I don't want to alarm, but here is something I went through as a kid when I had my tonsils out (well before 911 and modern EMS)...Be watchful for signs of bleeding post-operatively (bleeding during healing), especially if the scab sloughs off "too soon". Lots of coughing while asleep in the first few days can be a sign that bleeding is obstructing the airway (this is what happened to me as a kid). If there is bleeding, seek immediate medical attention (do not hesitate). Also: Watch for fever. Ensure he is breathing normally, if he appears to be having difficulty breathing get him to the ER (or activate EMS). |

Prayers out for the little guy.
I dont give a crap HOW minor or routine a surgery is. When the docs have your child, to a parent, EVERY surgery is major. He is not going to be liking his throat for a few days. Be prepared for him to be frustrated. It will pass and a week from now he will be out playing as usual. |
|
May God bless your son with a smooth surgery and a fast recovery.
|
|
Prayers inbound and good luck.
I would get regular popcicles or otter pops. Dont use dairy ice cream etc in case he has issues with the lactose etc. |
