Buzz only - no razor. You'll only have problems. This...ymmv |

Sunburn? Are you going bald? Never go full retard or no guard unless you are going bald, or have a nicely shaped head. Working outside of an office is good too. We need before and after pics BTW.

Using rAzor is fine, as loNg as you go with the grain. Otherwise you'll have problems

buzz it. I did it without spouses consent and she didnt talk to me for a few days...but started getting jealous about all the women saying how sexy it looked. She is back to normal now.
You're going bald and you're vain about it? Because that's what everyone is going to think when you show up all shiny on top.
Do it. Hair is over rated. Shaved mine over 10 years ago and will never grow it back.
Headslick and the headslick razor...its the only way to be sure...just take your time or you'll carve yourself up like a mofo

If your forehead does not reach back to the middle of your scalp, then I would advise against it. I have the aforementioned issue and I do shave my head, I have been tempted to let it grow back out, but my wife said, "Honey, it's not coming back on your head, keep it shaved"

Try using beard trimmers or outliner clippers. I have had occasional razor bumps and nasty cuts with a razor.(nick on the scalp BLEED)
shave = shave everyday unless you like your head acting like velcro when you put on your T-shirts & difficult to get it all
buzz w/no guard = same look as shave but less clingy and goes about a week between trims |
Why do so many people advise against a razor? I have difficulty believing my scalp is more sensitive than my face...

I did it once. I took it short with a set of clippers and then took a straight razor to the rest. Quite easy actually.

i use a razor every other day to shave my head shave with the grain of your hair, not against it. i used to shave against the grain (for a couple years) with a razor but would always get some minor razor burn and finally got sick of it. |
I shave my head with a gillette fusion razor every day. I have since I was a sophomore in high school. It RARELY gets irritated. It does bleed a hell of a lot when I nick it, but it's so rare that It gets nicked it's not a big deal. Not sure what problems the others are referring to, but I've had none. Oh, and I shave against the grain, too. It gets closer to the scalp and the shave lasts longer. Also, you WILL get a 5 o'clock shadow on your head.

Do it. It's liberating. Buzz it close and then use a razor. This is how I do it. I use my beard trimmer without the guard on it to get it close, and then blade @ 45 with a razor. It's a lot easier when your hair is very short. Also, if you are at the beach, take sunscreen. That lilly white head will get burnt and peel. You'll be walking around looking like you got teh leprosy. Ask me how I know |
Clippers and #1 guard. Leave it at that. Be prepared to get your hair cut every couple of weeks to keep it looking neat. You will need to see a barber more, not less, because keeping such a haircut neatly groomed is a lot of work. It's the only way to fly. I'll never let my hair, what's left of it, grow out long again. I wish I'd done it when I rode motorcycles.
Hats are your friend in the sun. I'm as dark-skinned as a white guy can get and I still have to watch out for sunburn. |
Walgreen's has some razors that are made just for shaving your head. Being that my best friend is a barber and have seen and heard about nightmares. I would recommend going to a male barber not a stylist. For the first razor shave. As they will be able to tell you how often you can use a razor with your scalp.
Head Blade I no longer shave it, I just use a set of clippers with no guard. When I did shave it I used one of these. Available at most Walgreens. Back when I was an E2 me and some buddies were sick of paying $9.50 every week to ten days for a high and stupid and thought we could do it ourselves. Not so much. We all showed up Monday morning with the "barracks buzz cut". I actually liked it though and have kept it that way ever since. |
I found the Head Blade sucks. I use a Fusion razor and shave my head every 3-4 days. No problems. Just go slow and use a good razor.

Buzz only - no razor. You'll only have problems. I only razor occasionally. Depending how close I want it, I'll go: buzz, electric razor and then razor. |

I am at the beach this week and I all ready have my hair buzzed as short as my clippers will go. I was thinking about using a razor. Any thoughts or suggestions? My head is all ready tan for the most part. I usually do not get razor bumps or burn on my face but I dont want to get them on my head! Wear a hat when you go outside. I have experience with no hair and no hat. Hurts like hell and sometimes you hair won't come back. YMMV! |
I used to shave mine all the time with no problems, it was real easy to keep up while I showered.

Squirt about a tablespoon dollop of baby oil, or mineral oil in your hand and rub into scalp. Shave. That's generally the way I shave my face now, if I'm going closer than a buzz cut on my beard. |
Tag, as this is something I have been contemplating for a while.
I have been going with a "high and tight", but as the years go by, there is less and less "high" up there, and wasn't sure if I would like shaving. |
shave it with a razor. Feels good man. use headslick or shaving oil IN ADDITION to shaving cream and take your damn time until you get the hang or it and toughen up your scalp. When the job is done, lather your dome with some menthol lotion and feel the goodness.
also, 1-2 days of growth on a freshly shaved head makes one hell of a defensive weapon. like sand paper to the face |
I shaved mine and discovered the arc of my head is not symmetrical.
Feel your head and make sure it is round. No shit, I shaved my head in college once and will never do it again. That is when I found out I have a cone head. Huge bump on the top of my noggin. Ugly! Girlfriend almost broke up with me...
never had any problems when I used a razor, just go for it... I'd be mr. clean all the time if I wasn't too damned lazy
buzz that sucker, it feels nice watch out for (1) the "q-tip", i.e. having a white head and a tan face... looks funny until you even out (2) sunburn on the dome... don't be a dumbass, wear a hat or put on some damned 'screen. |

It only works for people who have the right head though. If you have a lumpy mellon you'll look like mutant. |
