Im a web hosting reseller. One of my many hats I carry. Anyways, I can build unlimited amounts of websites for free.

Ive been trying to figure out what to build for the last few months and all i've come up with is that I want some type of blog that people want to look at....pretty generic huh.

What do you wish there was a website for?  Anyone want to start a project?

If you want to create a generic blog and have: 1.) PHP support and 2.) MySQL, then check out WordPress

I use it for my blog, but I customized it to look like the rest of my site.  Pretty easy to install and setup.

Something like Nextag that compares prices of firearms, accessories, and gear from all the different sources.  It would enable us to get the best price and also inspires competition.

People come here all the time asking "where can I get the best price on ******".

Well, you could build a website that provides information for new shooters. All sorts of basic stuff that one needs to know when taking up shooting as a hobby. Information about how to take care of your weapons, proper range protocol, overview of different calibres, that sort of stuff.

I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who do not have someone to teach them these things, so such a service might be indeed needed. And a topic that holds your interest is a plus when working in a web-project.

My €0.02.

I would love to do a DIY site!  Maybe a different thing every month, like how to change your own spark plugs, how to repair a chipped tile in the bathroom, how to conserve water, how to replace a sink or a toilet, how to fix a creaky stair, how to replace a bad receptacle or switch...  etc.

Interested?  It could be an absolute blast!

A site about why the ar15 should not be banned.  It could be a group project.  We could all send in ideas.  Sort of like the opposite of the brady campaign.

interesting idea.  Like Pricegrabber.com but for gun stuff.

I wonder how the server side scripting would work, and would such a project take a team of people to maintain.

I like the idea though. Anyone have the business model and server source code for pricegrabber.com ?

Usually the best sites are made by people who are passionate about what they do and find a need to tell people about it... not by people who want a website and don't know what they'd say on it.

If you don't know what you would do with a website, it's a good sign that you don't need one.  If you have an interest that you know a lot about and want to discuss with people, then maybe you could use a website.

Not picking on you, just pointing out that many people make this mistake.  Content and dedication comes first, website MAYBE comes later if the interest is there.

What is needed is a firearms website that polls all the existing websites and posts links to the "post of the day" from each one.

Kind of like an Instapundit.com specifically for guns.  Or a kind of firearms specific Drudge, although really Drudge is kinda turned into PeopleMagazine.com.

A clearinghouse that sorts through the chaff and links to the wheat.  Of course the time commitment would be enormous to read through all that stuff.  But there is a reason Glenn Reynolds has such huge traffic numbers:  He saves folks time.  If you figure a way to commercialize this for guns, you might have a money maker.

Of course someone will post a link to a site exactly like I have described 2 minutes after I post this.

I meant one not so commercialized.  DIY sucks.  Those idiots couldn't install a drain stopper in a new sink.  The only thing worth a shit there is Rock Solid.  Those guys are good.  The rest are morons.

Oh well, thought it was worth a shot.  I'll pay for the web site when I get ready for it, which won't be for some time.

its hard to capture the essence with just a blog. I would have to market a USB odor device to fully transmit the fart experience to the end user.

You could record the sound and make them available as MP3s. Hell, think about it. Ring tones for $1.99. CD's. Personal greetings. Or even live feeds, haha. You'll be competing with Itunes in no time!

Are you trying to make money with this or just messing around?  If you are going for $$, there is obviously no better web moneymaker than porn.  You'd want to shoot for a niche that hasn't been exploited yet, like midgets with goats or something like that.

How about a website that deals with ordinary citizens that have used a firearm to
protect them selves or their loved ones. I bet it would be astounding how many legal
firearm owners use one every month in this country.

just a thought

It definitely would take a lot of research every week.

I even had a name for it.

The only thing I know about web sites is that you can right click to make a shortcut to the desktop.  I am computer illiterate.

If you mean ideas on the layout...

I dunno.  I'll be damned if I can remember her name, but perhaps something like what that one teenage girl did with her campaign to send letters to soldiers in Iraq?  We have plenty from here stationed there that could distribute them, and I'd be willing to help volunteer to write them or do whatever.

Or maybe more of a reserach site, where famous battles are linked in honor of those of whose sacrificed their lives?

I'm just not very creative when it comes to these things...
