My blue heeler woke me up at 0400 this morning raising hell about something in my carport. I could not find one my two Glock 23's that was suppoose to be within arms reach of my bed nor my Surefire. I know, I know, major screw up.

I asked my wife to give me her Glock 23C. She quickly gave it to me. I go to the door in a pair of boxers and OPEN IT. Next Screw up.

A rather large Tennessee Raccoon decides the open door is his escape route from the nipping Heeler. When the door opened Daisy, my Heeler, really came unglued. The fight is on at my naked feet. Somehow the dog drags the coon into the yard. The coon is now ripping my doggie apart. I start shooting conservatively. Missing both animals several times until I finally hit the coon with a 155 grain SilverTip. The dog now has a better chance. Between the both of us we finally get the pissed off varmint subdued.

My EARS are RINGING! RINGING! RINGING!

Lot of mistakes and Lessons Learned. Hope someone learns from my misery.

That must have been one tough coon to have taken on your blue heeler like that.  I wouldn't have had the 'nads to shoot at it for fear of hitting one of my pups.  Glad you gave it a healthy dose of Vitamin L.

I am not a cop!!!

The reference in the original post stated I was shooting conservatively meaing shooting in areas away from the doggie even if if I missed, with a potiential to hit the ringeye.

My freakin ears are still ringing. Will it ever stop?

Any rabies risk?  Is your dog vaccinated?

The ringing will probably die down in about five days, when your ears' nerves start recognizing the permanent damage.  It might go away more completely in another ten years or so as your hearing gradually worsens.  Mine did.

Yup.  I oughta see just what kindof coon-hunting my Beagle-Blue Heeler pups (14mo) can do...

Just curious:  While you are in the yard blasting away with the Glock, the dog was in a fever pitch, and the coon was screaming, what was your wife thinking was going on?  Was she about to come unglued or was she finding those lost Glocks?

Inquiring minds want to know!
