Nice to see you're computer supports an operating systems "right to choose"

How long ago was windows NT the shit?
I was a small kid and I can't remember... |
I'm putting all of the old computer games I haven't played for many years (Decades?) onto one DVD...
Windows XP is built on the NT platform, versus Windows Me/98 which is built on the legacy platform.
Mech 2 and a lot of great games, like I'76 will only run on legacy. |
There are emulators which will let you play this. Looking for a link now.
Don't worry, I've got the titanium edition and it works fine... |
This fucker is almost 10 years old...
pc.ign.com/objects/003/003361.html Those were the good 'ole days! |
Its no surprise a game meant to run on Win95/98 won't support NT, or vice versa. The NTFS based op is way different from fat32, and was not a consumer type product back when Mech-2 came out. |
Must of been last year then... NT 3.1 in 93, NT 3.5 in 94, NT 4 in 96. Mechwarrior 2 came out around 1995-96 |
Oh...to be three years old again...... |
I tried to load up NFS: Hot Persuit the other day and it wont install on XP .
Ok, good. Brought out my old games a few years ago and had the same problem. Original fallout and Jagged Alliance were great to revisit. |

DyNo is the rock climbing term to leap to a new hold. It is my online game tag for most things... See you in BF2 |
When I tried to load up Red Alert on my new PC I got the same
Mechwarrior 4 does...it's a great game, and looks very nice on today's hardware.
I was bummed when it wouldn't let me install it on XP, I loved C&C Red Alert (especially when I messed with Rules.ini), and Red alert 2 just wasn't the same. |
It's a shame that my MW4 clan treats me like a god because I can host a good server... Have no fear! I come from Battlefield 2! I really wish they would come out with a MW5. I don't think there's enough money to be made. |
I still play all the MechWarrior games.
I like MechWarrior 3 the best. Looks the best and I can configure my Mech with only the weapons I want. |
Now there's a blast from the past. Many a night were spent on Grand Council and The Registry dying pitiful deaths. Then, with a sip of Goldschlager and the blowing-up of a full-sized Jenny McArthy doll, my fate was sealed.
I played MW, MW2, MW3, MW4.
The one I liked even better than the MW series was Starsiege. It was the precursor to Sierra's Starsiege, Tribes. Remember pong? We've come a long way, haven't we? |
On Windows XP, you can run some games in W98 or W95 compatability mode. This will allow most but not all of the older games to work on an Windows XP system. P.S. XP is the best operating system that Bill Gates has come out with yet. Windows 98 SE is his second best. NT and Windows 2000 are too business like for games. Millenium was garbage and 95 was just a good step up from Windows 3.1.
Oh man, I haven't even thought about MW2 for a few years. Good times.
Anyone tried playing the original Grand Theft Auto on a new PC? Runs WAAAAAAAAY too fast. |
I do that as well......right now I am in the middle of Baldurs gate for the 3rd time.........I haven't purchased a new game in about 6 years.......I only purchase them after they have been out for a couple of years or so.......I like the slow pace of not always needing to be on the cutting edge of everything.....
you might be able to get Mechwarrior 2 to run in dosbox
dosbox.sourceforge.net/news.php?show_news=1 |
ACT Application Compatability Toolbox, do a search on microsoft.com
I beta-tested Mechwarrior 2 PC for Activision. That's more than a decade ago!
yeah the weapons load out on MW4 sucked. even the omnimechs were severely limited using CBT rules, given enough time and techs any mech can have any weapon, and omnimechs can have anything without taking much time |
Mechwarrior two was great. Mercenaries was my fav mechwarrior game I think.
I cant even get Tomb Raider 2 to work on my XP. Mech Warrior ... What were you thinking?
Loved it! Same goes for the the lucasfilms X-Wing and Tie fighter stuff. Remember configuring XMS and EMS memory? Never could get those to run on 95 or higher. I know they cam eout witha retread that worked on the 95 at least, but I never bought it. I also loved Harpoon. But that I could never run on 3.11 once I upgraded from a 386 to a pentium 90 |
+1 !! |
I spent about 2 years playing I76. It was a common pastime for me. Oh, the memories.
Fallout was good.. Fallout 2 was better. Alien blaster and the Red Ryder LE kicked much ass.
I've been playing Dungeon Keeper 2 and Civilization 3 recently.
Get it installed, then right click on the shortcut properties, Compatibility tab, and click the "Run this in compatibility mode" and select the OS it was shipped for.
I got a few really old games running this way. You may have to tweak all those settings, but you can probably get it running! |
I never could get that one to run correctly......
Anyone try Tribes yet??? Remember Berzerk???? I have it on MAME. Does anyone play recall T-Mek arcade games???? |
Fallout, Civ 2, Master of Orion 2, Tie Fighter with the Defender of the Empire expansion. Good times and way too many hours wasted.
Last game I really got into was Deus Ex... I liked it but didn't have the time to keep at it.
Now I only game on my PS2- and rarely at that. Though I just got 3 games for $45 at MediaPlay for when I have more time... Hopefully, next year. |
