It's sort of hard to argue with... CZ527M in 7.62x39 and a Vortex 1-4x PST in Warne Throwlever Rings.

I don't hate that at all.
They make it with a threaded barrel now, and in .300blk though... WANT. |

OP is full of fail.
You in TX trying to tell us folks east of the Mississippi what a deer rifle should be? All the great guns to choose from you pick an odd ball not even made in the Ole USA.... Get a clue...... Red |

Nice! That looks like a nice little compact brush gun. I personally come down on the peep-sighted Marlin .30-30 side of things, but yours is an excellent choice as well.

The deer that I shot with a 7.62x39 did not die as quickly as I'd hoped.

I always thought that was a cool little rifle.
SKS's with mil-surp ammo have taken a lot of deer in the midwest. With modern ammo, it would more than get the job done. |

The basic train of thought is that if it's not a 760 or 7600 in .30-06 that you can't kill deer. People scoffed at my measly .243Win and claimed it's a kids round for starting off. In over 20 deer I've taken with that rifle none walked further than 30 yds before they were DRT. Many folks are probably moving on since the 7600 has gotten a bit pricey. View Quote also not seeing as many Marlin 336's anymore either for similar reasons and also since .35 Remington factory ammo is only loaded seasonally anymore My Grandfather's LGS in central PA goes through Ruger Americans in .308 quick...especially the Compact model |

Nice. I put a 1 - 4x leupold on a tikka t3 for " in the woods " and it works great.

Big fucking fail OP. The answer to the question of best deer rifle east of the Mississippi is not a foreign made rifle in a commie caliber.
Unless the answer starts with the word "Winchester" don't finish the sentence. You can follow that with "94" and you'd be right. Or you can change the question to "best deer rifle in the world" and the answer is still Winchester. It's just the M70 instead. For the record I'm a fan of CZ products. |

The deer that I shot with a 7.62x39 did not die as quickly as I'd hoped. View Quote 7.62X39 has a adequate level of power for general deer hunting . Mil-surp ammo is about the worst thing that can be used . With decent hunting ammo at reasonable distance with a hit in the correct place it should work pretty well. Sometimes a well placed shot just fails to do the expected damage but there is no reason to blame a decent cartridge for that . I am really likeing the OP's choice of gun. Light ,handy , in a reasonable cartridge that will get the job done without beating up the shooter . Not over glassed. The ability to use cheap mil-surp ammo playing around at the range should translate to the shooter being very familar and comfortable with the gun. I have never shot CZs much but all that I have messed about with seemed smooth and well built. I am more of a peep sighted lever gun type of guy but I could use this gun. Not something I would hunt down and buy new but if I ran into this setup at a gunstore used at a reasonable price I would be tempted. Not that I need another gun but something I might want |

Having never killed a deer east of the Mississippi I don't know.
That being said if I was carrying a 7.62x39mm it would be a self loader. |

during the depths of the Obama ammo shortage, 30-06 and 30-30 were still available at the Walmart

I've said, for years, that a 7.62X39 would make a great little close range deer rifle in the eastern woods.
I, however, prefer the .308 in my M1A for deer hunting. I only lost one piece of brass a year. |
|
I hope there are better bullets out there now than when I used some commie made soft point ammo back in the 90s with my SKS to take a deer once. Those bullets appeared to not expand much, if at all, based on the holes and internal damage. With the 3 bullets that hit it. I'll take a .30-30 over the 7.62x39.
