The class is about Hispanics in America.  Most of my classmates are writing pro-illegal "Doing the jobs Americans won't" BS.

I would like to fire back with something good.  I'm just trying to think of what specific issue I should focus on.

How about these:

1) Why legitimatizing the illegals already here is a bad move economically?

2) Did you know we already gave amnesty once? Do you think things will be any different this time (or the next)?

see this thread for some good reference data

All day in this freaking class, I hear about how it is great for everybody that illegal immigrants come here.

I think I can break the paper into these points:

1) The chaos that goes unchecked down on the border

2) Enormous financial strain on the domestic United States

3) National Security risks associated with potential amnesty

How has the "welfare state" contributed to the illegal immigration problem in America.

Americans don't need to go after low paying jobs because we pay welfare benefits to people who do not work.  Low paying jobs still need to be done - someone has to "sweep the streets".

Illegal immigrants come even for the low wages because of all the welfare benefits that they also get once here.

Welfare benefits obtained by illefgals include: free health care and free education.  There are others, too.

Yes we all know that the sum total of 500 years of Spanish/Native inhabitant culture in the Americas has distilled to lawn care.

Don't get out there on the frontlines of the battle for immigration reform.  We'd like to be taken seriously lol.

+1

No reason to hurt yourself grade-wise to make a point that'll be lost (Or more likely ignored) on the teacher and/or your classmates.

On the other hand......you might ask (In your paper) why it is that the same people who DEMONIZE WalMart (Dems/Libs) for paying "low" wages thus "forcing" their employees to use puplic health and welfare services at a higher than average rate (Subsidized by other taxpayers) see NO problem in doing it on a MUCH larger scale for a MUCH larger group?

Here in Oregon we pay about $6,500/yr for schooling one child.  That's around $3.40/hr added to the "Pay" of a 1,900 hr (Full-Time) a year worker. The $8/hr employee is actually an $11.40/hr employee if they've got one kid. 2 kids and we're paying $14.80/hr.  Just add $3.40/hr for each additional child and you can see where a relatively low skilled couple with 4 kids can hit the system for more than they can make up for through the taxes paid on them (Meaning we're carrying them).

Why is that "Bad" when WalMart does it with american citizens but okey-dokey when the states and the taxpayers are forced to do it with foriegn nationals (According to Ted Kennedy) and the DNC???

Write a paper about how Jose the illegal keeps legal immigrant Quon from ever coming to America.  How Quon, who lives in poverty, saves and works for years to legally apply to immigrate, and then waits, and waits, while Jose runs over the border.  Ask if it is fair or just if someone can break the law and be rewarded (and defended) while law abiders wait and wait.  That way, you ask a multicultural vs multicultural question.

For bonus points, actually interview legal immigrants who had to pay and wait and wait to come here.

ETA: This one probably requires you to research the quota system and the INS methods for determining/recommending immigration numbers, so if you don't want to do that research or don't understand basic statistical modeling, don't bother with this subject.
