There is a company in town called:

LAWN ENFORCEMENT

Their trucks are painted black & white, like police cars, (white door/black hood and fenders- front and back)
and they have a large gold star with black accents/trim on the door that looks very much like a badge and yellow light bars on top (or maybe green).

It is very well executed, and gets your attention.

If you are interested, I could probably snap a pic sometime.

You're going to have to be able to say NO if you plan to make this just a weekend business. Every lawncare guy that I know have to turn down work all the time.

You're not shittin'. I did this a few years back, along with working a daylight (7-3) job. I charged $25 a lawn for average sized lots, more for larger plots, less for heavily landscaped lots that didnt have as much footage to mow. I did this for a couple months, on word-of-mouth advertisement only, and never ran out of work. Hell, I was to the point that I had a scheduled calendar in my truck, marked for what days I'd do what lawns. Some folks wanted them done every week, some wanted every other week, and some stuck with calling me when they wanted it done or didnt feel like doing it themselves. Some of the older ladies (60 and 70 year olds) would bake me a pie, or make me Kool-Aid or Lemonade for the scheduled days. Sometimes I'd get tips as well. I'd reluctantly accept them because they were pretty insistant, but I'd throw in a little extra work the next time they had me over.
In fact, by the time I left my last employer, I was making more a week mowing grass than I was at my "straight" job, even after paying my neighbor's kid $50 a week to cut a few lawns a week for me while I was at work. Of course I worked both days on weekends, from 4pm until dark during the week, and had a heck of a rush before any of the summer holidays (picnic season) to make this kind of money at it.

Really the only thing that keeps me from doing it full-time now are the price of self-insurance and the fact that I dont have a snowplow-worthy truck for the winter months. I still do a little on the side, but not nearly like I was. I'm on swing shift now, and my 11-7 and 3-11 weeks gave me plenty of extra income last summer. I know I can get the work. But the $20 per pay, 4-member family insurance for dental, health, prescription and vision is hard to beat right now.

If you're friendly, do the work in a timely manner, and arent afraid to do a little work, the landscaping/lawn care business is easy pickings in the right area.
