There is a 'device' you can get at many truck-stops called "tire thumpers".
Generally about a 2-2 1/2 foot long, heavy and hard club. The best blunt object money can buy.
Originally truckers used them to quickly check the pressure in their tires. They are very hard, a pretty good weight, and often have a steel or lead core. Eventually they kind of evolved into a trucker's self-defense weapon.
I have one of those and also a good machete. T-ball bats of course aren't bad either (though not as good as a tire thumper).
There are different makes and models. Some are more 'robust' then others. Mine even has the words 'tire thumper' printed on it. If anyone gives you shit tell them its a tool for your automobile.
When I bought mine at the truck stop the girl behind the counter asked me "You aren't going to beat the shit out of someone are you?" I said "No its for my tires." Then she said "Yeah the one we keep behind the counter is for our tires too."
I've tested it out on non-human/non-living targets before. I would definitely NOT want to be on the wrong end of one.
They are like the ferrari of blunt objects.
