As I was climbing Atigun pass I was stopped by a cop. She said I could make it to Prudhoe Bay but I'd never make the return trip. A freak storm was on its way and and would put 2-3' of snow on the pass. I'm at Eielson AFB watching the weather waiting for a window of opportunity. I rode 2,500 miles to get here and I can't give up now.

Good luck.

Had to turn back on that route with a Suburban of questionable mechanical integrity.  Had a wife and kids on board too.  Hope you can make it.  Just wait the weather out someplace warm and safe, you don't want to get stuck in bad weather up there.

Just wait out the storm.

also, FYYFF

ETA - just checked multiple weather sources and none of them show snow, only precipitation.

Looks like an awesome ride.....  I want to do that ride someday.  Maybe when the kids are grown up.

Did you go up the Alcan?   If so, did you bring a pistol with you?  If both how did that work out?

I had to hit Google to find out where you are.

Looks like a cool trip. Have fun and stay safe.

One time I had to travel from pump station 6 to pump station 4 in December, I was in a pickup being driven by the courier.

At about the middle of atigun we came over a small rise and 100 yards ahead of us was a semi taking up 90% of the road coming straight at us, to the right was a drop of about 300'.

Take your time and stay safe.

It is August in Alaska and you expected what, weather wise?  It is an exciting trip no matter the time of year or what veheicle you drive.  Good luck, be safe and make wise decisions!

I've been held up at Eielson AFB for the last three days waiting for a window of opportunity.  I think I can give it another go Monday.

Why are you waiting at EAFB, some thirteen solid hours of riding from Prudhoe, when you could be in Coldfoot, waiting for your window?

Shoot me a pm if you want to grab a beer. I'm just north of Fairbanks

The trucks that go back from Deadhorse are empty.  I bet you could get your bike shipped to Fairbanks cheap and you could fly back.  Oh, you turned back

Be safe brother, ride slow, and watch out for rocks thrown by truck tires.

GL mate, discretion is definitely the better part of valor if your're solo. Least your south of Fairbanks instead of stuck somewhere like Livengood or worse. Sometimes it makes sense to come up short to come back later.

Wont make you feel any better but in my run up the east coast of Africa we got the Sani in but turned back before Dar Es Salaam. I'll likely never get back to that part of Africa. Always next year - safe travels. Calcium chloride sucks anyway

I'm staying here for $60 a night.  Coldfoot, Yukon river is twice that.  Plus I get free movies, a place to change oil and a wash machine. I'm leaving tomorrow morning.

Mother Nature never cooperates. Never made it to Ushuaia, only as far as Puerto Madryn trailing Dakar. Did you ride the whole road?

I made the entire trip from Portland to Ushuaia.  I flew around the Darian gap. 17,000 miles.  Started with a team of 3 and ended up solo.

I went over Atigun pass about 4pm.  I'm at the Prudhoe Bay hotel now.  Due to snow, mud and road construction it took me 11 hours to go 230 miles.  Mission complete!

I made it to Prudhoe Bay 2 days ago,  I'm in Fairbanks now resting.  Atigun pass is treeless and beautiful in its own way.  I'll do a better report when I get to a real computer.

Glad you made it up the Haul Road safely.  I worked for 15 years at Prudhoe but never drove - just flew on the charter jet.  My hunting pardner and I drove my F250 4x4 with CabOver camper to Manley Hot Springs and hunted the area for moose.  Saw no bulls but saw a big grizzly - a fun hunt anyway.  I loved my time on the Slope - summer and winter.

I explored some back roads in the Yukon and found this old cabin.

I left Fort Nelson this morning and I'm spending the night between Dawson Creek and Prince George.  I'll be entering Washington around Bonners Ferry.

After thing about it I think it was the ranger from the Arctic Circle complex.  I was stressed when I talked to her, all I remember was an official looking truck and a person in uniform.

I pushed myself to the limit twice on this ride, I glad I went solo.  I would be greatful if one of you could embed this vid for me.
