I miss the heat of the days; and the cool of the nights.
I miss the smell of the shit pond.
I miss the faint smell of JP-8 and 100LL at O-Dark-30.
I miss the roll calls.
I miss the feeling of cracking open a new Hellfire casket.
I miss the Naans from the Boardwalk after a shitty night at work.
I miss the random rocket attacks at night.
I miss the sunrise. (Although every day was (almost) exactly the same)
I miss the satisfaction of an afterfire inspection.
I miss the shitty food from the 'Dirty Lux'.
I miss the comradery.
I miss painting the kill markers.
I miss the feeling of coming home.
I don't miss is shitty homecomings. I've had 3 of those.

What the fuck is wrong with me?

Thank you for being as strong as you are. I couldn't even get on the plane to go.
What may feel like a weakness to you looks like unyielding steel resolve to me.

If it means anything to you, I miss the pictures you posted of the labeled bombs and missiles.

Hope it works out for you, and thanks for your service.

The only 'squadron' picture I have, circa 2008.

Our Squadron's patch. 62nd Expeditionaryt Reconnisance Squadron.

The patch of our primary 'customer'.

Blowing off some steam before it got too hot outside.

We lost a bird in the early morning, and messed with the pilot.

My shiny new M4A1.

This fucker landed ~3' away from me. I was the one to find it.

The Afghan summer sunrise. Another day ticked off the calendar.

TSgt Puterbaugh (MSgt now), playing around.

One of many that I remember. I attended the ramp ceremony for this one.

Locusts. Think of biblical descriptions of the great plagues.
Our chaplain visited during the worsty of it. He commented, "Who the fuck pissed off the "Big Guy"?"

A few AGM-114P2As with stickers that a few members here sent me.

A visit to the Department of State helicopter site.

Having a little fun.

Toby Keith visited, and shot some hoops on our ghetto assed basketball hoop.

(Lr to Rt) A1C Hill , Myself, and TSgt Puterbaugh.

On of our launches.

'Puter fucking around.

Amn Brooks.

This aircrafts Crew Chief with his aircraft after it fired.

Mexigun817 (who's a member here) painting a kill marker.

My M16A2 after about 10-minutes in a rather hellacious sandstorm.

A Pred returning empty. IIRC, this was our first 'shot' of my first deployment to Afghanistan.

Golf Ramp at night.

Le French.

RichV (a member here) sent us a care package.

Pushing out a Pred for a launch.

Brooks "hard at work"

A little down time.

Our first night at work in 2009. This was my first night in Afghanistan.

We called this one "The Hammer".

I too miss many aspects of deployments.

I miss the payoff of my hard work
I miss the early morning sunrises too
I miss the smell of JP-8/4/5 and jet exhaust
I miss fucking off and making a crappy time a good time

Things I don't miss
The unmerciful heat
Inspections

I tend remember more of the good times and less of the bad as time goes on. Miss the hell out of the guys and the deployments. Don't miss the incompetent fucks that somehow managed to make SNCO. Don't miss the bureaucracy, but I've learned you deal with that no matter what you do.

Holy shit, I know that feeling man.

Gone on 3 (1 year) deployments and I appreciate each more than the last.

I hope to hell I go once more before this is all over, but I doubt it.
No chance in hell of being able to volunteer.
