Good on you. I see a lot of people come to the range, and you see them having to figure out the how to change a mag, cock their weapon, or have no idea what to do when a stopage occurs. Not saying that's you, but you should get to a point where the basic weapon manipulations come as naturally as driving a car, before you ever put a live round in. This is especially true if your going to participate in any kind of action shooting.
When I was in the Army, way before I had my own AR I would practice these things... some of the guys made fun of me. But several times we got MOS training time and I would be given a morning to teach all the 11Bs (as an E4 I was the highest ranking 11B in a company of 11Hs) and we would practice dime and washer and mag changes, as well as blindfolded disassembly etc.
