Well, I made it back from Bogota! Thank God! We all forget how nice it is to live in the good old USA until we leave for a while (at least I did) I can honestly say that I have never been happier coming back from a trip than I was when I got back on Monday night!
The trip was actually uneventful, but I really didn't do much except work and keep my head down.
All the miliatry I saw there were carrying FAL carbines, most looked to be in really good condition, but I didn't ask to look down any bores while I was there...
The city of Bogota is crowded, but fairly clean. The economy is pretty stable in Columbia, so business seems to be booming. They drive like maniacs, but at slow speeds (due to the crowded nature of the streets), and I didn't see one accident when I was there. If nothing else all the drivers have really good situational awareness, and avoid accidents well.
Well, thanks for all the well wishes prior to my departure, and I'm glad I'm home!!

joho, Glad you made it back in one piece. Did you see any gunshops while you were there? I wonder what the gun laws are like there and if they have any kind of CCW?

Sorry guys, nothing extra came back in my baggage except a leather jacket for my wife. Sorry to disappoint y'all...
As far as gun shops, I didn't see a one. From what I could gather from the locals, firearms are strictly regulated there (except for the drug dealers of course, who can get whatever they want!!). I got a couple of weird looks when I asked about gun ownership and such, so I let the subject drop, I didn't feel like explaining to the federales why I was interested in guns.

The security and customs in the Bogota airport are extreme, I got frisked and my bags were searched three seperate times before boarding the plane. It made the US security seem like a joke. When there is a guy frisking you and another watching while pointing an FAL in your general direction, you tend to follow directions...
