At least when it comes to my benefits.

I take my last final exam tomorrow, which will be the end of my first semester in college.

I had an option to go either with the MGIB or the post 9/11 GIB (I enlisted when the MGIB was in effect, got out when the post 9/11 GIB was in effect).
So after I extinguish my MGIB, I can use the post 9/11 GIB for 12 months (you can't do that the other way around).

Also, since I'm from Texas, we have the Hazlewood Act, which makes me exempt from tuition and fees, and keeping my monthly GI Bill cash to keep a roof over mine, and my soon-to-be wife's (she's finishing up her Masters degree in Speech Pathology)

I chose the MGIB because I get the most out of it. I now receive about $1400 a month for 36 months, and I get another 12 months of benefits through the post 9/11 GIB.
The post 9/11 GIB would only get me $950/mo and 36 months of school.

I still got a ways to go though...

This is the kind of stuff and the people I don't mind the govt spending money on.  My man here put in his time, gave part of himself to the nation and we are better for it.  Thank you and good luck in your future endeavors. And fuck you to welfare leeches, BHO and anybody who thinks the govt owes you something because you were born here or managed to sneak in.

Good for you. You earned that money and don't you forget it or feel bad about it. Good job!

dangerdan, how did you choose?  Does the assistant at the school tell you the difference or what?   I'm leaving the service soon and i signed up with the old MGIB as well.

The benefits are part of the deal.  USE THEM, you earned them.

Just don't use your veteran's preference and education to land a .gov job.  Then you'll instantly turn into a leech per GD.

I first talked to a counselor at the Joint Education Center on my base. When I went home and got enrolled, I talked to a counselor at the college who helped me get on the MGIB for school.

I forgot to mention, if I went with the post 9/11 GIB, I wouldnt get my $1200 back that I initially paid for the MGIB.

Once the woman gets a job and pays back most of her debt, we're getting out of the apartment and using my benefits for a home loan.

I ended up making 3 B's and a C for my final grades for my first semester. I got a C because I missed an assignment that I could not do because I was on the couch in agonizing pain for about a month. I'm still in pain, but somewhat able to get around.
