Im at work bored out of my mind and was laying on the ground cause back was hurting, so after a bit I rolled over and figured I would do some push ups. Holy hell, im out of shape, just 1 kicked my ass.... Im going to have to remedy this. Whats a decent program I can do here at work? Im thinking push-ups, sit-ups and some jumping jacks. Then when i can get some cheap weights or something. Sound ok? Whats your thoughts on something i can do to help my weak ass out.

As much as most people hate it, start running.
A few years ago I was WAYYYYYY out of shape, probably 50 pounds heavier than I needed to be.
I started running, at first my goal was just to be able to run a mile without stopping....and believe me it took some time. My first day out, I went about 1/10th of a mile and felt like my heart was going to explode inside my chest.

I wound up losing a lot of weight (60+ pounds), went from a 38" waist down to a 32" (and actually have abs again)....and now, a few years later, I can run a 5k in 23:51 and a mile in under 7 minutes. I have kept the weight off for about 2 years, feel great, and cant recommend the same strongly enough. I also throw in pushups and situps when im in the mood for it, but for the most part, I just run every other day.

I worked out with weights for many years when I was younger, and after a long time with power-lifting / body-building routines, I honest found I liked running better. (less wear and tear on my joints, easier to manage my waist size)

What ever you choose, it just takes commitment.
Stick with it and you will reach your goals.

Forget the weights, just do as many pushups & situps as you can as often as you can. On top of that, find any excuse you can to carry boxes, take the stairs, push a car, etc.

Stairs at work are a great suggestion - I stopped using the elevator and it helps a lot.
Anything that gets the heart working makes a difference. An easy one (especially for sunny days)....park in the back of the parking lot when you go places...walk the extra 100 yards to and from the building...every little bit counts.

No stairs here in the building im in. But I can get out and run around the building. Cant go to far as well it is work, but a lap or 2 around the building might work for me.

Hahaham I am out of shape, gained 20lbs in the last three months. Should weight in at 190. But not that bad man I can still do 20 push ups with out a problem and quite a few sit-ups (do them until I simply cant any more dont count).

Damn man you really need to get some more excercise. Shit will kill you. I have got back on my routine. Try to get in at least 2 miles a day. 1 on the treadmill and 1 outside. I also try doing some weights but not to much weight. Just need to tone up. Also stay away from the soda unless you really must have one but barely open it for you cant drink it as fast. Also drink as much water as possible and try eating a good steak every night.

Also if doing any hard routine I would go one day on one day off to give your body a rest.

Any how this works for me and gets off about 4-5lbs of fat a month and helps build muscle on me. Might need to do quite a few things to find what works for you.

I "can" do more push-ups, just 1 kicked my ass. So I stopped so I can get a "game plan"

+1
I started working out back in June. Started with just walking 30 minutes a day 5 days a week, now I am running 20 miles a week (4 miles 5 times a week), plus lifting weights 3 days a week. I have lost 52 lbs. so far.I have went down 6 pants sizes (42 to a 36)  and 1 shirt size (3x to 2x). All it takes is the will to want to lose weight and you can. Take it from somebody who was a really out of shape land manatee (I did weigh 290 lbs).

Get some 5 or 10 pound dumbells and work your arms and chest while you are sitting around bored at work.

On a side note. Im not overweight. Im 5'8" and 135lbs. I have a high motabalism so I dont put on wieght. So atleast I dont have to worry about that part of it. Just need to get more "fit" I guess is the best way to say it.

Also not sure what type of work you do but with winter coming up I take it you will be wearing heavy clothing.

Might want to try a weight vest, you could conceal it under your clothes, might wanna start a 20-30lbs and move upto 80 or so lbs.

Youd be better of with a few extra pounds, muscle is rather hard to build.

Install a pull-up bar somewhere...anywhere, and start with a partial if you have to. Do some every chance you get. Get an old belt and try weighted sets. Try to work with someone else for the challenge and a "spot" to finish a set, and try to do the cleanest ones you can; they don't have to "lock out" but arms do need to be fairly straight. Go slow. "Enjoy". Stay safe
PS... even if you can't do one now, get a stool and hang from the top position and let down as slow as you can. If you've got two arms...stop your whinin'.  Good luck

What really helped me with pushups when I recently started getting back into
reasonably good shape was doing pushups leaning agasint window sills, the
desk, whatever.....That way you aren't actually pushing your whole weight and can work at getting your res high, then, gradually transition into regular pushups.

I like the weight vest idea, myself. However, if you fill the pockets with compact all-metal handguns, you will be both increasing your health, and enhancing your personal protection.

Or you could just pack a Kimber; since those things weigh like 45 lbs, it would serve the same purpose.

I was on my way back from my Saturday morning bike ride (45-60 miles) yesterday and saw one of the regular walkers wearing what at first appeared to be a flak vest and I was like damn the neighborhood is getting bad, but after getting closer I noticed it was a weighted vest - first time I'd seen one.

Cute little pushup/running/swimming workout

We did this at the Fire Station.  It took a little longer than the guidelines but we were hella fit about 2/3 of the way through.  Start Slow.

Debo

ETA you have to scroll about half way down before you see the workout.

I do not have any tips for working out at work but i will tell you this.. once you get in shape you will have more energy, wake up less tired, and feel better over all.  I work my ass off in construction every day, but i still go to the gym 4-5 times a week at night.  Just being in top shape gives you a termendous amount more energy.  Once your in shape your'll never want to be a fat ass again.
