So my wife and i both got iPhone 3gs's about 15 monyhs ago.  We did not sync them on the same computer or anything lke that, yet this past week we had both of them lock up and die within 4 days of each other. Coincidence?  Maybe, but i doubt it.  My wifes died when she was out of town, she went ahaed and got an i4. Then mine died and i'm pissed and have no trust of apple.  They basically said "wow thats weird.  Now go buy a new one". No more apple for me.  Whats really bad is that i had so bought into them that i also have an ipad which has become my primary aviation chart - including approach plates - source, and i sure can't afford for it to go tits up with no warning.

So samsung is supposed to be coming out witha new galaxy phone that sounds killer at the end of the month. - im thinking i'll get soemthing super cheap, even a dumb phone, while i wait.

I want reliable, and had a samsung blackjack for a long time (flawless) before my iphone.

Is there soemthing out the in smart phones known for great reliability?

You do know that electronics sometimes crap out, don't you? My wife and I both had Samsung phones that each had to be replaced TWICE.

Sorry your iPhones took a shit on you, but my research tells me that Apple has a pretty damn good track record. Your mileage obviously varies....

Well thats a good question.  I went kicking and screaming to cell phones in the first place and went with absolutely basic for a long time.  Then went with a smart phone and found it pretty handy - checking weather, email (not through my phone but through internet), myriad other things.  I have 2 jobs and the smart phones allow me to basically cover them both regardless of where i am.

That said, i'm enjoying my current off-grid status.

You didn't send it in for warranty?

I work for Verizon and I can tell you we see a HELL of a lot less issues with Apple products than Android based products.    There is a reason iPads out sell Android tables by 26 to 1.

As for the iPhone, I have seen around 3 come in with a real issue since February when we started carrying them.    I see more Android devices than that in a days time.

Android is cool and fun, but Apple is vastly more reliable.   My next phone will be the iPhone 5 (I have a DroidX now).

Don't need to check internet for weather in TX.

All I have is a Motorolla i570 that I've had for YEARS and just added unlimited text messaging for no extra charge and that's all I need.

I have a digital camera and desk top computer for everything else.

I still have Direct Connect as well.

Tell ya what, if you bought 'em same time same place, there's a fair possibility that they're same batch.  Serial numbers are probably veeeery similar.

Something I've seen for sure in Apple products (and other vendors too, but I work with a lot of Apple stuff), is that some batches will all shit the bed within a short time.

Your example is kind of an extreme example of it, but it's not something I'd consider outside the realm of possibility.

Then again, a software update might've nailed them and they might be easily repairable.

15 months is like 5 years in smart-phone time.  the Samsung Galaxy S II is coming and the iphone 5 should be out next month...

3g is getting pretty dated.

If he was using a Droid phone from the same year and trying to run the latest build with newer apps, it's going to get just as easily crushed.  I can tell you, the build didn't kill his phones.

I do think he is either a decent troll or is trying to justify buying a Droid.
