So I joined the local park district, its 2 blocks away, I have not worked out in years since I had surgery on my leg. I had my gall bladder out a month ago and I would like to lose 20 pounds. got any ideas where to start. there is a indoor track, pool, weights, elliptical s and a area where there are yoga balls .

Start with what you find the most enjoyable.  You're more likely to stick with it than if you choose something that you dislike.

start low and start slow

you're not 20 anymore and you're not in shape anymore

don't kill yourself

Everyone who's a gym goer has seen it a million times, somebody comes in as a ball of fire, works like crazy and then stops showing up after 2 or 3 weeks.

slow and steady and build the gains back.  They'll come back reasonably fast, but not if you are injured.

Do they have a "rower"?

What was the leg surgery for?

What's your diet look like?

Hey OP - if you have a smart phone - get an app like "NOOM" on it - log your foods and excersize and get your weight lost goals - It will help keep your on the right track.

12 weeks ago I was 257, currently at 238 and the target is to get to 225 pounds.

I have been riding the dickens out of my road bike - 100+ miles a week

Define healthy.  Your diet is going to make the biggest difference between whether you're successful or still struggling 3 months from now.  Post up a sample of what you eat over 2-3 days.

Don't limit yourself to losing weight. Muscle is an effective fat burner, but it is dense and weighs more. If you take your time and increase muscle mass, fat will come off. Good sleep patterns and diet are often overlooked — don't do that.

This is great advice and correct.  However, as a guy that hasn't "worked out in years" he will likely be able to do both at first.

Eating lean protein & fresh produce, cutting out the refined sugars & carbonated beverages, and eating a big, wholesome, energy-packed breakfast are some of the easiest things you can do. Ironically, they can also be some of the most difficult. But I guess your lack of gall bladder dictates what you eat. How do you do with poultry? Boiled eggs?

I eat a lot od salads and chicken along with fruits and veggies. And when we go out to eat I usually only eat half and bring it home. It is all in my belly and I plan on toning up also. I am going to swim some laps I think that will be easier on my legs,. I also plan on using the hot tub after the work out  and walking and running on the track. I get good sleep I work 9-5 for the railroad in the train yard so I am walking all over the place and moving around.

Well there is a rower, and I did that for 30 minutes and I walk/ ran for a mile. Then sat in the hot tub. its a start so I plan on going every other day for now and when I feel good everyday.
