I knew the end was near when the ICU nurses threw out their strict visiting hours and let my Father and I stay.
85 years old with a lot wrong.  Though she lived a wonderful full life.  the dust storm is following me around.
I don't know what I'm saying here just wanted to say something. I feel like I am in a daze or something.
She made it till 10 am Monday.  My dad and I were both with her.
She wasn't afraid to go. She is in good hands and I know this but it still hurts knowing she is gone

Edit 07-01-15:
I just read  every one of the replies to this post.   I want to thank all of you from the bottom of my heart.
She had been in and out of the hospital for the last few years and always bounced back ( to some extent ).
She put up a good fight.  The memories of what was said and what happened are hard but I am thankful I was able to be there.
Though I don't feel it right now I know I am a lucky man to be able to be there with her.

Thank You

My Mom is in a nursing home and my Dad is blind now.

Posts like yours help me to realize that they're a blessing and not a burden.

God comfort and bless...

Mom and I sat with my Dad.  It was rough, but he knew he was loved and in good hands.  Sorry for your loss.

Very sorry, op. We lost my Mom to lung cancer 3 years ago. I too was holding her hand till she left us, and she was surrounded by her family. I'm glad you were there for her, at the end.
We should all be so lucky.

Been there.  Done that.  You have my sympathy.  As bad as it was, I'm glad I was there for her.  It does hurt a little less each day, but even after 9 years since she passed on something will happen and for a split second I'll think to call her to tell her about it... and then I'll remember that I can't do that anymore and I don't think the hurt from that will go away.

Sorry for your loss...85 is a great age thats a full life. Many people would wish they could live as long as your mother and many do not get that opportunity.

But if there's a "good" way to die, that was it.

Sorry for your loss.

However, you should try and focus on the positives.  You and your Dad were there right until the end.  You should be happy that she passed away with her family right there with her.  I'm sure you made her last minutes of life the best she could ask for.

Keep dad busy. Men of that generation have a strong pair bond with their mate and can become a little lost without them.
