I would just have a lawyer do it. The ATF is going over them with a fine toothed comb. 600 dollars is a lot cheaper than the alternative

Someone with much more knowledge will come along and fill in all the deatils, but basically instead of having things like supressors and FA weapons registered to your name, you put it in a trust. Makes the process easier for some reason.

A trust used for NFA transfers, Short barrel rifles, machine guns, suppressors, etc. Using a trust gets around the chief law enforcement officer (ie. Sheriff)  signoff and fingerprint requirements. You can also add trustees to allow your SO or children access to your NFA items.

Our Sheriff is really good about signing off so nobody bothers with them here.  He's exactly what everyone in this country deserves to have for a Sheriff.

Don't have to deal with liberal CLEOs to get sign off.  No pictures either.

Indeed...and those reasons are:

no fingerprints

no pictures

no LEO signoff

multiple trustees can access the NFA item

and +1 to "What are you going to get?"

no prints, no picture, no CLEO signoff and I don't have to hide them from my wife.

My next purchases are all going on trusts.

I've got 2 cans that are registered to me.  I may even pay the $400 to transfer them to the trust eventually.  It will be worth it.

The only NFA item that is 'quiet' are suppressors.  So fun time will be quiet time.

Interesting, I did not know about the sign off exemption. If I ever wanted to go NFA id have to go this route. Even though our county (Johnson) is like 98% republican and very conservative, there have been numerous reports that the sheriff refuses to sign off on NFA toys.

Congrats, I had to form a corp here in Texas.  It cost me $300, a small price to pay to not have to bow down before my local sheriff.

I really want a suppressor(s).

I think I might go the signoff route.  I hear the CLEO and staff here are very NFA friendly.

I might've missed it in the thread already (Sorry if I did)
but, can you set the trust' up to allow non-transferable
guns in as well.  That would get me excited

F that. Do a trust. There's more start up cost, but it's much better for having access by family members/friends, no fingerprints, and easier to manage if something should happen to you.

Congrats

I will be purchasing my first supressor in 2011, but before I start the process I'm going to have a trust made. Since your active duty also, how easy is it to relocate with NFA items when you PCS? What if the state your moving too doesn't allow SBR's or supressors?

Then you're SOL. You can either leave them behind, in some type of safety deposit box or vault and hope you move back some day, or get rid of them completely.

If you're moving to an NFA friendly state, you simply have to fill out a form that amends your address and send it to the NFA branch. It's not a big deal.

Yeah, but if your corporation ever dissolves either for nonpayment of dues, filing of paperwork etc. then you end up in possession of a contraband NFA weapon.

A Trust is a one time deal.

Transfers are also faster on a trust because there are no prints to run and they don't send it to the FBI for a background check.
