and my aim was terrible

On the upside, I have started feeling less intimidated of being at a range and shootin. Both of which I have never done before
I shot a .22 S & W, East German Mackarov and glock 23.

Even though the aim is terrible, it's great you get out to do it. Keep practicing and you'll get there. BTW, somedays my aim is really bad too.

Welcome to the addiction.

Welcome! Believe it or not, my aim is better with a .45 than a .22. Have fun!

Put a few hundred rounds through it until you are very comfortable with it - then worry about hitting stuff!

Good advice, Mrs G! That's what I feel like I accomplished today. Like adjusting myself to the range, the noise and smell as well a loading, holding and unloading the gun. I also got a lesson on what to do if I have a misfire. And of course learning to do things safely.

So, you pull out the banana when you're happy?

I got TBK1's banana!

That didn't sound right anyway, thanks!!

It was also cool to see the other "toys" other people were using.

There are so many elements that go into your shot that you may not even realize....your grip, your stance, your breathing, trigger control...everything must come together in that one moment you squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeze the trigger.

Keep up the practice and the more comfortable you feel shooting the better your shot will become without even purposely trying! From there, it's all downrange baby! Woo hoo!

Congrats and happy shooting

I do best with my Preban Colt (oops - just Colt).
Occasionally I will shoot my two 9 mm, but am not very good at it. Hmmm, any tips on handguns?
I thought about getting a Concealed Carry, but have to get better at aiming first.
Thanks

My aim is not that great either, but I love to hear it go boom! As far as getting a concealed carry license, I hadn't shot in three or four years but was still able to make the minimum score to qualify. Believe me, if I can do it , any of you can do it too. I really felt like I had accomplished something. I travel all day in my work, so being able to legally carry makes me feel safer.

What's this "brother was extremely patient which shocked me" nonsense?

Don't forget.... I control the router in this house. Don't make me reconfigure the firewall so that the only sites you'll be able to hit are DU and the Kerry for President homepage.

(just kidding. I'd never be that cruel to someone.)

As Bill Cliton said " I have no recollection of that"

Sure, you do that. After which I'll probably post a personal ad for you on DU. Hmmm..maybe that's too cruel and unusual punishment.
