So "why" would someone associate Aunt Jemima with slavery?

I always associated her with really good tasting pancakes. This is freakin stupid.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- An activist who was arrested after disrupting a City Council meeting in an Aunt Jemima costume has been banned by the council president from attending meetings until the end of March.

Jackie Brown was escorted out of a Nov. 22 City Council meeting after loudly criticizing the council for the city's small business incentive law.

Brown, president of the Jacksonville Coalition of Black Contractors, said the law treats blacks like "slaves" because it does not provide enough opportunities for minority contractors.

She returned during a later public comment period and scuffled with a police officer after refusing to leave when ordered.

Brown was arrested and charged with causing a disturbance at a lawful assembly and resisting a police officer.

A letter this week from Council President Kevin Hyde informing Brown she cannot attend council meetings until March 31 cites a rule that allows the council to remove disruptive citizens from meetings.

Bill Sheppard, Brown's attorney, did not immediately return a message early Friday.

Actually, she looks like she has been doing too much taste testing. If I remember the old commercials, she actually looked pretty good. Narrow in the waist and padded in all the right places. At least the bottle feels pretty good.....

Back in the early sixties, our town held an annual
"Aunt Jemima Pancake Festival".

It was sponsored by the local Kiwanis club; held at the
high school cafeteria, and drew hundreds of people.

"Aunt Jemima" was the featured celebrity.
The event was a major fund raiser. My band played
at it three times and I got to know "Aunt Jemima".

She was a professional spokesperson for Quaker Oats.
She made a good living playing that role, and she was a
hell of a neat lady.
Damn shame what has happened since then.

I've always wanted to post about Aunt Jemima.

The 'New' Aunt Jemima on the pancake box looks like a dietician fron Johns Hopkins that's gonna give you a breakfast of tofu and kelp or some other such shit.

The OLD aunt Jemima looked like a black Mammy out of Massa's kitchen, to be sure. In a way, I can see where some Blacks might find her as somewhat offensive.

I never did.

I looked at her as the dream woman cook of breakfast!

I could see my cholesterol rise 8 points just looking at her.
