Looks much better! Did you use Denatured alchohol to strip it? Did you apply and Tung Oil?

Wow, that looks awesome. How does it shoot and where did it come from?

I used Formbys furniture restorer, and some 0000 steel wool, and washed the stock off in that and then rinsed it off in clean Formbys. Let it dry, gave it a very sanding, went over it with a tac cloth, then applied a couple coats of poly urethane.

Being a Russian Capture it is most likely Ivan applied Black Paint.

Ivan took almost all of these off to be used for scrap metal, along with most cleaning rods, and locing screws.

Yup, they did, BUT at least they left the rest of the rifles intact, esp the codes, and swastikas......

Yea, if it weren't for them we would not have anything but Vet Bring-backs

I am working on a K98 that my grandfather brought back in a duffle bag. Its late war (no bayo lug, capture screws, cleaning rod, etc...). The bore shines like a diamond in a goats ass! It looks as if it was never fired. I can't wait to get it out to the range. Hopefully before I leave for the sandbox.

From all the pics I have seen plus the one RC Mauser I own they are all blued and not painted.

Some of the Russians were actually reblued, but most are painted and are very hard to distinguish between them. There was a guy on the Paralax message board that was taking off all paint using acetone. Acetone will not hurt blueing, but will strip off the paint. He did 4 K98's all Russian Captures, and only 1 out of the 4 was actually re-blued buy the russians. On the other 3 most of what was left was bare metal.... but you could see places that still had the original German blueing on them.
