Hello again.

I just wanted to say I finally bought a gun for myown. It's a Ruger 10-22 rifle. I can't wait to take it out to the range. I got it over the weekend.

Anyone have one of these? How do they shoot?

anyway, I'm going to go to Walmart to get some .22 .

You made a fine choice for a first gun. Practice safe gun handling, good breathing, and trigger control. Shoot lots of that cheap .22 ammo, and enjoy.

For your first gun you did great!

I'll give you a month before you are saving pennys for your first AR-15 though.

And to think you will be able to get a NO-BAN model!

Hunter out...

Good choice.  I have a 10/22 also.  It's the black plastic stock and stainless barrel.  I got it about 10 years ago.  I also purchased a scope with it.  I believe it's a x10 power.  It will shoot dime sized 10 round groups at 25 yards and half dollar ones at 50.  For a .22 that's good enough for me.  Recently I've been visiting rimfirecentral.com and think I'll be getting the mod bug for it.  I just installed a bolt buffer for it ($5) and it works great.  I'll probably get a voltsquarsen (sp?) trigger for it for about 35 bucks then leave the rest of it alone and get another to build up really nice, with the thicker barrel, better scope and better internals.

Mine is black and stainless also. It's not the one with the wood stock. I just thought the black/stainless model fit me better. It was a little more, but the guy said they are good rifles.

Necro,

Do you know anyone that can give you some lessons first?  Everyone starts somewhere, usually BB guns when they are wee lil buggers.

There are a variety of rules and NO NOs on what to do at a gun range... and those rules should be followed no matter where you are.

See if your local range has lessons available or you could even just ask around for some volunteers.  Everyone is happy to see a new shooter, especially those that understand the responsibility of gun ownership.

Also, look up the laws!  Don't drive around with it unless it is in the trunk of your vehicle in a case, unloaded, with mags and ammo in a different container, just for an extra measure of not-getting-in-trouble-ness.

I'm on a college campus, so I get a few people who hint at the idea that they want to come shooting.  I don't let just anyone come with me and they get a FULL safety lesson before they get to touch anything.  Please look into getting the basics done!

There are lots of ads that will grab your attention since you have this new toy.  AVOID those stupid springy thingys that 'Make your gun full auto.'  They all suck.  Don't try and make your gun into a Gattling gun.  Wait and see if Ruger will make mags larger than 10 rounds.  Aftermarket mags never seem to work well consistantly.

Before you buy tons of ammo, see what ammo your gun likes best, THEN go out and buy a case.

Great choice. I have one with a Choate pistol grip stock, cheap BSA red dot, and Butler Creek 25 round mag. It is one of the most fun guns I have ever owned. I use  CCI shot shells to shoot wood bees out of the air on my back deck. I have tried like hell to wear it out, with no success.

When I have kids, I am going to go buy a kitten and make them shoot it with a .50cal just to show them. DONT FUCK WITH GUNS they are evil evil and kill kill kill. Also will give them a nice pain in the arm they wont soon forget. Ok off subject.

Any how have never shot a 10/22 but here they are great guns, also ammo is cheap 500rounds $12. Only thing I own that is ruger is a Mini-14.

I don't own anything smaller then 223 but learned with a .410 and .22 from my grandfather out in the big skys of montana.

I was thinking a 20MM but is it worth the cost when I can just punch the kid in the arm?

Nice choice. I own the exact same modekl and I really wish I had got the target model instead but the light weight n all make it a great first rifle.

Oh and btw when it comes time to clean the stock WILL come off. It stuck a little hard but it will come off if you follow directions. so dont worry about breaking anything.

I dont know. Until the hair topic I honestly didnt know that she was a teenage girl. I must have missed the intro topic as i thought up until the hair topic that she was a HE.

She hasnt done anything as of yet to cuase me to be suspicious of her.  Not very good fashion sense but to each his her own.
