Congrats, my 02 is going to the boneyard as soon as the 06 comes out.

Get ready to spend some serious $$$$$$$$ on mods.

I have over 18k in mods alone. Those things are addictive.

Those things are stupid fast considering how much they weigh. Be careful in the rain especially, point it straight before you romp on the go pedal.
Link Posted: 10/16/2004 7:01:48 PM EST
the 06 is supposed to have 550 hp
Link Posted: 10/16/2004 7:02:10 PM EST
I've wanted one of those since they came out with the supercharged version. I need the extended cab though. I'm thinking Joe Gibbs Chevy now.
Link Posted: 10/16/2004 7:02:48 PM EST
Dude I hate to break it to ya. But it looks like there is a prob with the rear end. Either that or the engine is blowing oil.

I agree with the previous comments. That said, I love your new truck! Post in here again in about 90 days and tell us if your insurance rates are facing any....ah, adjustments!

You will F- it up, or get some more of your famous speeding ticket's, and jack up your insurance to a point where you cant pay for it.

I'm mid 30s and great record and I pay $1500 a year. Something tells me that they quoted him for a regular f150
Link Posted: 10/16/2004 7:08:32 PM EST
How the hell can an 18 year-old afford a nice new truck like that and $1200 a year in insurance?? I don't know how much a truck like that costs, but I'm guessing it's more than I can afford!

You must be one hard-working kid, or have really nice parents!

New ones are 35k, Ford wants to dump these and are having a time of it. People are waiting on the 06 with manual transmission and 550 hp.

He never said it was brand new, used ones are not too bad.

I don't think so. I've been very careful lately. I'm a pretty good driver, lots of experience for my age, and I've learned my lesson as far as speeding goes.

What did I ever do to make you dislike me?

Yup - defintely more than I can afford (or, more specifically, am WILLING to spend on something that depreciates as quickly as a car).

Don't get me wrong - I'm not COMPLAINING about kids being able to afford nice cars, I just wish I could justify spending that much on a car. I'm psyched on Combat_Jack's behalf. Nothing is as fun as having a car you REALLY want!

It's clear that you don't really want an M1A.

I do live at home, so no rent payment. That truck there represents the majority of my income for the last year and a half that I have been working. As of Monday, when the money is transferred, I will own it free and clear.

Just to make things clear, I paid for the truck, its wan't a gift from my parents or anything. Its in my name now. I'm pretty stoked about that, its great to have my own stuff.

I do want it, but its at the bottom of the list.

Its used too, 20k on the ticker. How the guy had it for three years and only drove 20k is beyond me, thats 5 months driving for me.

Simple. He either lied or is on his parents insurance.
On his parents insurance, no biggie. Lied about what hes driving? His insurance will be revoked and they wont cover any damages if he files a claim.

Theres no WAY an 18 year old with 2 tickets can get that low of insurance on that kind of vehicle by any normal means.

02, 20k miles. I got a good price on it. Came with tint, 6 disk changer, 20s (OEM), fiberglass bed cover. All the improvements they made for the 01 model year too. I am really excited about this, could you tell?

Did you happen to get a CARFAX report on it?

Damn, it took me 3 years to age 21 before I paid a new vehicle off....

That's the BEST WAY to buy a car - a year or two old with less than 30K miles. Regardless of how you got the sweet insurance rate, or could afford the car - that's the smart way to buy!

Congrats either way!

I have yet to met an 18 y.o. without a lot of experience driving.....according to them anyways.

I have 24 years driving, can you beat that sonny?

Not saying you haven't learned your lesson yet, but.....

well, lets just say you just stated you leaned your lesson about speeding, yet a post earlier you wrote this:

Most folks don't make these their daily driver. Mine is pushing 600 hp and gets 6- 8 mpg with premium.

I can punch it and watch the gas gauge move. I've had mine 3 years and have 18k miles on it.

Wait til you have to buy tires, 4 tires $2400
Link Posted: 10/16/2004 7:21:00 PM EST
I thought about getting one but the gas milege and the fact that its a single cab kinda detered me

But I am sure you'll like it, its a nice truck

That's one thing that keeps me from buying any sort of sports vehicle, car, bike, or truck. The cost of perishable items like brakes and tires, not to mention the rising cost of gas. I drive an '01 F150 with the same engine as that Lightning but without the supercharger. I average 12 miles to the gallon, and it costs me very nearly $50 to fill up right now. Figure the Lightning is going to get worse mileage, and you've gotta cough up extra for premium..... The overall cost of ownership, beyond the initial purchase price, is sick.

Sarge, for my age I have a lot of experience. Not compared to older guys, but for my age. I have about 90k miles now, mostly interstate driving. Lots of instruction from professionals also.

When I said "I learned that on the way home" I was basically saying that I know that its a little squirrely. I have lots of time in pickups, and this one is only a little more difficult keep straight than the standard cab 3/4 ton I started in.

Stock. I'm not a low rider type, but I needed something that could do a reasonable car impression and still carry my dirt bike.

Lol, thats not what I got it for. I don't dig on the casual sex thing anyway. Hell, I try to meet chicks without them ever seeing any indication that I don't live on welfare. Sorts them out real quick

My brother plays the guitar. Its not the chick magnet its cracked up to be

It will be fun in the snow, I'm sure. Actually the low end, between the low compression and the parasitic loss of the supercharger is quite mushy and docile. Get the revs up a bit, where the supercharger spools, and its a beast.
