Yeah, or you can buy a AV reciever, most newer
(5 years) models have S-Video switching. It is
nice to be able to switch audio/video with one
button on a remote.

Isn't that an aerial maneuver?

My Sony Receiver (think surround sound) will switch up to 5. It will do s-video or component video. It's also got two digital optical ports for switching.

Most electronics stores will have them; they'll run around $20. You'll also need the appropriate cables.

The VS-4 supports both S-Video and Composite (usually a yellow RCA jack) video, but all sources must output the same. For example, your DVD player and DirecTV receiver may have S-Video outputs, but if you also want to hook up a VCR, video camera, or console game that only has composite, then you'll need to use composite for all the sources. That's because if your TV detects the S-Video plugged in, it will ignore signals on the composite line.

Nah, he doesnt have to use that. They make them like RCA splitters, he will jsut ahve to turn one of the components off.

Not always possible. For example, my DirecTiVo has no "off" switch, as it is designed to be always-on so that it can record shows for me. It wouldn't work with just a Y cable. The switch is the right way to do this.

Didnt know that about the Tivo thing. Interesting.

Edit: I might know if I could get Dish to upgrade me to a damn DVR.
