My internet at home has been wonky of late - works great for 5 minutes, goes to hell for 30-90 seconds, works great for five minutes, repeat.

I have rebooted both modem and router multiple times, the symptoms persist.

So this morning I connected my desktop PC directly to the modem and ran a speed test.  66Mbps down, just under 5Mbps up.

I reconnected the router and the same PC - wired to the router - gets 23Mbps down and similar upload speeds.

I can't think of any good reason for the throughput of the router to be 1/3 the throughput of the modem other than it's a cheap Netgear that's 5+ years old.

I'm not going to buy another $40 router. I'd like to keep it under $100 and Amazon Prime would be a bonus.

Suggestions?

ETA - leaning toward Archer C7 for $90.

Any ASUS within your budget should suit you just fine.
