I need some new music. I need something that rocks. Are there any decent new bands out there? A lot of bands like to scream, but does anyone know of some new heavy metal bands with some talent? Just so you know what I'm looking for, I like:
Fear Factory Blind Guardian Maiden I kinda like the new Disturbed stuff Lately I've been listening to Mars Volta again (even though it isn't really metal). Drunkship of Lanterns is a thing of beauty. Anyway, help. I need some new music that rocks. |

tungsten is pretty good. its 1.7 times heaver than lead, and is a bitch to work with in a powdered form.
Oh Heavy Metal as in music.... Nevermind.... |
Not new, but not really all that well known, download some Stuck Mojo. Rising, Pigwalk, Declaration of a headhunder are all good ones. Declaration of headhunter even has an AR15 on the cover of the CD.

Perhaps if you are tired of todays music, you need to delve into the past. It will give you a better appreciation for what you listen to now. Heck, you may even be surprised and LIKE some of it.

I've been listening to Static-X lately
don't know what genre that is |
Maybe Iced Earth?
Check out Throwdown.. cd Haymaker..
Of course Hatebreed too ; ) |
Look up some Nightwish for a unique heavy metal sound with awesome vocals.
Check out www.roadrunnerrecords.com. The company handles a few heavy metal groups. You can also listen for free.

I'll second that but I'm not sure it can be called heavy metal. It does indeed rock. Another band that rocks pretty hard is Dope, only the latest album is somewhat disappointing. |
Good Point. Last great heavy metal guitar play in my book was Dimebag. RIP :( |

There are plenty of good, newer metal bands. With solos and everything!
-Trivium (these guys are fucking amazing for being 20-21 years old.) -Unearth (more hardcore-biased, but still plenty of technical stuff there) -3 Inches of Blood (finally something good comes out of Canada... very Maiden-esque metal) -Opeth (more progressive than anything else, but excellent.) -In Flames (awesome band I've seen several times live, and they sound unbelievable) Clutch is fantastic, too, but doesn't come close to bordering on real metal, I don't think. They're excellent live, too. And I would also hestiate to call Hatebreed or Throwdown metal, either - they're definitely hardcore bands, and it stops at that. The new, reverse-windmill, annoying kids-flailing-everywhere hardcore, not the old, fast, circle-pit hardcore. |

I could make hundreds of recommendations, but lets start off with a few,
In the "Rock" category Clutch (Not really metal per say, but an awesome rock band, one of the best around) Kyuss (Broke up a few years back, but they released some of the most amazing albums known to man.) Fireball Ministry (Good, groovy stoner rock) Opeth (as suggested above, these guys are absolutely phenomenal, very melodic and heavy) Fu Manchu (These guys make me drive fast, awesome live show) The Murder City Devils (Broken up now, but awesome rock and roll) Monster Magnet (Their old stuff is absolutely amazing, Spine of God, Superjudge, Dopes to Infinity) At the Drive In (If you like the Mars Volta, this is the band that the singer was in before, great stuff) Muse (Mindblowingly good rock and roll, some of the best stuff I have ever heard) For something a little "heavier" Dilinger Escape Plan (Even with the new lead singer, these guys are one of the best) Coalesce (Great stuff) Botch (Same as above) Moonspell (Sing about werewolves and stuff, awesome goth metal) Fear Factory (Still rockin after all these years) Neurosis (These guys are so sludgy, its amazing) And for the most Metal Band EVER! MANOWAR!(All men play on 10!) |
Wow, I'm absolutely shocked and astounded that someone else here besides me has ever even heard of Botch, nevermind actually recommending it! Too bad, I got into them after they'd just broken up. Amazing stuff, though it completely evades good categorization. Aside from "downright noisy," of course. We Are the Romans still freaks me out. Best guitar sounds ever. |
They were amazing were'nt they. Sucks they broke up. I agree that they defy categorization. We are the Romans is one of my treasured possessions. Never heard anything like it. |

IN Flames has a new album out Feb 7th, its a must buy. If you don't already have it, get Soilwork's Stabbing the drama.

"Heavy Metal" means different things to different people.
Here is what I would suggest you check out. Black Label Society - Zack Wylde's band (guitarist from Ozzy) these guys rock. Stuck MoJo - Kind of a different sound, but still very heavy Alterbridge - Not sure if you would call them heavy metal, but they have tallent Hope this helps |
Iced Earth
Pink Cream 69 Savatage Vandanplas Royal Hunt Edguy Fair Warning DC Cooper These are not necessarly new bands but most are more well known on the other side of the pond! |
+1 on BLS. I just bought the CD mafia. I would try to get a DVD of Zack playing. I never realized how crazy that guy is untill I saw him play. He is VERY impressive |
I like three of the four. Slayer, Slipknot, and Sepultura. |
Just listen to Pantera and be musically contented the rest of your life.
Children of Bodom
In Flames Shadows Fall Soilwork Killswitch Engage Those are some I listen to a lot. |
Somewhat "newer" albums...
Venom - Resurrection Death Angel - The Art of Dying (thrash metal) I've always been a big Death Angel fan from the the 80s.... got to see them for the first time live at the Brave Words Bloody Knuckles show in Cleveland in May. One of the best shows in 2005 for me. |
Doh. |
