Well, his rides anyway! We watched Air Force One land in Atlanta from my balcony! An Atlanta PD helio was scouting out the approach path and area before AF1's arrival when he zipped past our hotel. Seeing everyone out on the balconies he swung around and did a slow flyby scoping us all out. Very cool. We then watched as APD shut down I-75 and saw the motorcade come by. About 40 vehicles or more including two identical limos bearing the flag. Very impressive.

I then watched his speech, also very impressive, IMHO. Shortly thereafter I hear a helio and here comes the motorcade again. Even more impressive at night.

I've never seen any of that before and am pretty stoked about it! It is good to have a President worthy of respect and a little awe... God bless him and the USA!

By the way I am OUT OF ATLANTA after 11 LONG weeks! Poly school was the hardest thing I've done since Grad School... Ready to get back to work.

This reminds me....About a week after the attacks I was down in Dallas and I saw a complete police escort for the first time. There were about 8 cops on motorcycles surrounding three buses and three cars.

The whole procession was in the right hand lane going down the highway and the front bike would peel off to block any entrance ramps to the highway and all the other bikes would pull up to take his place and he would speed back up and take the rear position, as the surrounded the whole left side of the procession.

This was on 635 heading west towards DFW airport.

Anybody have any idea who this might have been? I meant to ask here when I got home, but it slipped my mind.

Well, the chopper (de-milled Kiowa I think) was black and all evil looking with the FLIR and nightsun and such, and we know what that means to Joe Average. It looked like there were several operators on board so I guess maybe he was not too far off...

I drove a White House press corp vehicle in (morning) Bush's motorcade and (afternoon) Cheney's motorcade at the Congressional retreat in Williamsburg last year. VERY cool. It's amazing how much preparation and manpower go into a single day for a single man.

They had I-64 between Williamsburg and the Newport News airport shut down when we drove Bush to the plane. We had VA SP bikes buzzing ahead to block intersections in town.

I'm hesitant to post anymore details about what I saw (in terms of hardware and preparation) before and during (I was background checked before and then searched at the LZ), but let's just say it was pretty awesome. Especially when the choppers landed and knocked over some small trees and almost floored the 6'5" Marine.

Isn't it nice to finally be able to look upon AF1 with pride and awe??  Thank God we now have a real President!
