I posted this in the ham forum but thought I would go ahead and share here also!  I have had the pleasure of contacting the ISS several times via, base, mobile and handheld!
I wanted to let you hear my contact and also share a video from NASA with a lot more insight to the operations of ham radio and ISS!

It is a lot of fun making the contacts and talking to them!!

ARISS is what got me into HAM.

We were lucky with the setup we had going at our college club shack (yaesu 5500 with a 2m and a 440 on either side, not to mention it was located on one of the highest points in Cincinnati)... now that I've graduated I need to build my own yagi...maybe if i have time whip up some servo tracking.

I think having the Amateur radio on board the ISS got a lot of people into ham radio!!

That's very cool.

When I was in Okinawa in 1991, we set up an HF radio and listened to the Space Shuttle guys talking with Houston. It was fascinating just to listen.

I have a tech class license that Ive never really done anything with...  How does the ISS crew handle amateur radio?  They just occasionally have someone on the onboard rig and if they feel like it they will respond?
