they would simply sell the mags themselves for MSRP off their site.

Link Posted: 12/31/2012 8:14:29 AM EDT
Like Black Dog Machine does? They are far and away cheaper off their website than any of their dealers - midway, brownells, etc, sometimes by half or more
Link Posted: 12/31/2012 8:21:38 AM EDT

I realize it's not easy.

but it would end the dealer abuse.

(and yes I have mags for sale on the EE but with a clear disclaimer that if you were simply patient you wouldn't have to pay second hand prices!)

Yeah but do you really want a manufacturer like Magpul, or whoever makes the dsg mags to now shift their attention to selling to the individual? That's a lot of headache, when they can just concentrate on making things & then sell to their list of distributors/dealers in set increments. Many of these manufacturers only make mags in large batches to sell giving them time to develop & make other things as well.

You think a 40rd pmag is late now......

even the option, with a limit of 5 per purchase, would curb the goiging.

Like it or not, higher end prices cause more supply to flow. Higher prices allow for more raw matierials and more incentive to hire staff, pay overtime, etc etc. To keep prices the same in an environment of high demand = shortages, or an even worse shortage than we otherwise would have had.

You manage a "wholesale department" and you think a high volume manufacturer like Magpul should start selling retail and limit orders to 5 pieces per order?
Link Posted: 12/31/2012 9:36:14 AM EDT
Economics. If ya don't like the price then don't buy! I hear distributors to the retail outlets are jacking prices too. Kudo's to the Mako Group choosing to keep prices low for us when they could raise prices.
Link Posted: 12/31/2012 9:39:20 AM EDT
that is not really their job
Link Posted: 12/31/2012 9:42:47 AM EDT
I bet if you called MagPul, and wanted to order say $50,000 worth of magazines, they would tell you to pound sand. They have much larger customers to deal with. Them selling to individual's would be a nightmare.

If the manufacturer was to take over sales and distribution all the way to the end user the price would necessarily go up.

There's no such thing as "gouging" when it refers to the price that someone "asks" for what they're selling.

Entitlement mentality though is a very real and disgusting thing.

amen !.......and someone even suggested limiting sales to five

It is amazing the # of liberals on (what one would think) a conservative gun,

Do you realize the shipping nightmare that would be? 3 mags here, 5 mags there for a manufacturer? On top of production? It would be a logistical nightmare in the shipping department. We did it at Barrett when they were fairly small. Then they got popular. Then they started shipping bulk mags to distributors, but also sold to individuals online. Most people deal with the dealer who will add the extra mags and acc'y to the order. It's easier that way.
Better to ship in bulk to a distributor.
Link Posted: 12/31/2012 11:05:35 AM EDT
I dont really think its price gouging, if a gun store had the same prices now as they did last year they would have nothing to sell. They dont know when they are getting more shipments, they dont know what they will sell next month to make having workers worth it.

I see it as how gasoline is sold, the gas station charges you what it will cost to replace the gas you are buying so they can buy more to sell, they dont sell it based on what they paid for it, they would lose money if the price rose overnight and the margins on gas are crap.... margins on guns arnt that good either so I cant blame the gun stores I blame the dumbass buyers that are panic buying that could have bought any time the last couple of years

Magpul does normally sell magazines on their site

atm, they are only taking dearer/distributors orders due to demand

Link Posted: 12/31/2012 6:48:32 PM EDT
Price/product controls never seem to work in the real world. Sellers are not required to make distribution of goods "fair"' although Obama and Marx would prefer it that way. The market will straighten out as supplies increase due to demand, and prices reach the point people won't pay.

The fly in the ointment is the gov't, which queers anything they touch by unnecessary or burdensome regulations. They'll fug up the natural order of things every time.
Link Posted: 12/31/2012 6:52:03 PM EDT
A manufacture is not setup to distribute effectively to the end user. This is why most manufacturers, in many industries, will only distribute to a wholesaler which will distribute to an independent dealer.

What's next? A thread on gold 'price gouging'. After all, it should only be selling for $200/oz

There is no such thing as price gouging unless the item in question is a necessity...like water...and all distributors are in cahouts. GOT IT?

I don't know why anyone on this site is mad about price gouging. I mean, if you are on an AR15 website don't you have at least 7 pmags. I have 20 and in all honesty they'll last me another 20 years. I'm just laughing at this panic. My gun collection is worth a lot more now.

I think a 5 dollar tax stamp for starting regular threads and a 200 dollar stamp for high capacity assault on capitalism threads would be a reasonable common sense restriction for this forum.

Most manufactuers don't sell to dealers, they sell to distributors. Magpul cut off new dealers awhile ago. Manufactuers only care if dealers are selling under their MAP and even then it is almost impossible to enforce. There are 130,000 FFLs. How can manufactuers keep track of everyone's pricing, especially if a dealer gets an order in and the product is gone in a couple days?
Link Posted: 1/22/2013 6:43:27 AM EDT
And finally, quit your crying about the “price hike bandwagon” and just admit that you should have listened better in Economics 101 class. If you waited too long to buy, then boo hoo for you. Welcome to the world of capitalism. And, if you think it’s bad now, wait until the dollar collapses.

How would this stop people from price gouging. The same people would just place multiple orders and then sell them for panic prices (not that there is anything wrong with that. I'd be doing the same thing if I had any mags to spare ).

Smite the communist heathens who infest this site.

Help me to have charity for the stupid bastards who for some unknown reason decided not to buy magazines during the last eight years of feast, and now bitch constantly in the famine.

Give the community patience through the challenging times.

Indeed. The recognition and understanding of true freedom and liberty, including the free market, is what makes a man.

Whiny bitches who cry and want some kind of veiled redistribution to happen on their behalf because it's "not fair" make me sick.
